I've read about an annual safari rifle match hosted in Libby, MT and it always looked like a great time. Basically it's a big-bore shoot with a .375/9.3 caliber minimum and various safari-inspired shooting scenarios.
Is there any interest? Any ideas where and how to go about setting it up?

A test of a rifleman at these or other meets would be to random draw 3-5 team members and their rifles. Then everyone shoots all the team rifles , perhaps against each other or against other teams. Refinements to the basic concept welcome... I don't know if anyone already does this, but would be fun. And perhaps acrimonious....

We had a 'big bore' shoot at Armijo Springs a few years ago. I'm sure it was on a much smaller scale than what yall are referring to. Lots of fun. At one time all the 'big bore' rifles were propped against a stump. I wish I had taken a pic, I bet there was at least $100K worth. I dont remember what the smallest rifles that could be used was, but IIRC the largest shot in the competition was a 470 Nitro Express double rifle. Oh, one other thing, they didn't allow any reduced loads. Weight of the bullet could vary, but full powder charges.

We have one with the DSC every year and it is sponsored by Heym. It is a great time but would be much better with a bit more shooting incorporated into it. The course of fire consists of the following IIRC; 3 rounds off sticks at 60 yards on stationary buffalo with one point for body shot(5 inch sticker on shoulder) 2 points for brain shot(smaller sticker on the head)
3 rounds offhand at 40 yards with same scoring
3 rounds(if fast enough) on buff target moving right to left. With same scoring.
375 and up only
I hope to attend the Libby shoot this year and I will make it to Cal’s shoot one of these days.
Cheers, Cody
