An airplane evacuating as many as 240 Americans from a Chinese city at the center of a virus outbreak departed Wednesday before dawn and is en route to Alaska, a State Department official has told The Associated Press The U.S. government chartered the plane to fly out diplomats from the U.S. Consulate in Wuhan, where the latest coronavirus outbreak started, and other U.S. citizens. The plane will make a refueling stop in Anchorage before flying on to Ontario, California, the U.S. Embassy in China has said. On Tuesday afternoon, Clinton Bennett, a spokesman with the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services, confirmed by email that the flight was expected to land in Anchorage sometime Tuesday night. Wuhan is the epicenter of a new virus that has sickened thousands and killed more than 100 and the official said Tuesday that the plane left the city before dawn Wednesday, China time. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the official was not authorized to speak publicly. During the refueling stop in Anchorage, the travelers will be re-screened for the virus. I'd say they stay on the plane personally. Either this isn't a big deal or they are stupid to deplane unless going quarantine and that should be done whereever final destination is.

And now we are getting into the tourist season as plane loads of Asians fly into Fairbanks to observe the aurora borealis.
This tourism thing is overblown IMO. The KP is a mess in summer.
Once Bernie gets in and appoints AOC, she will institute her 100% tax on airline tickets and that should help.

CDC staff take the temperature of each traveler with a hand-held non-contact thermometer (thermometers that do not touch the skin) and observe the traveler for cough or difficulty breathing. If sick travelers are identified, CDC evaluates them further to determine whether they should be taken to a hospital for medical evaluation and to get care as needed. Screening seems a little lame for a potentially deadly virus.

Reportedly will be detained at the CA destination for 3 days and more depending on condition and/or symptoms.

After the Kalita airplane they were on left Anchorage, they were enroute to Ontario, CA, but the CDC ordered the plane to divert to March AFB, CA. I wonder why that is?
