It's not dead, it's just not getting airplay on FM radio. If you're posting on here, then you have access to youtube et al. Lots of great country music still getting made and played. Been a pile of threads on this over the years.

I live way out in the woods in the NC mountains. Ten years ago, there was a nice little home style restaurant in my little town, I heard the food was pretty good.
The girlfriend and I went over there for supper. The manager was standing at the door, he shook my hand and welcomed me to the place.
We went inside, they were playing rap music, but it was "country rap.'

We did a 180 and went right back out the door. The manager was gasping, he said "Why are you leaving what's the problem?"

I said "They are playing rap music. I don't listen to that crap."
He didn't say a word. He could have apologized, and gone inside and put on some good music. But he didn't. In other words, if you don't like country rap, BEAT IT.

When Madison County hillbillies love "country rap" that is a sign that times have changed in Nashville.

I'd like to see six of today's "country" artists pile into a Cadillac Fleetwood and spend a month on the road playing one-night stands, using local talent as backup musicians like my aunt and her peers did in the 1950's. No roadies, tour buses, and slick production shows, just a bunch of honky-tonks full of drunks to play for. Some of the tales she could tell about the rowdy hijinks some of them pulled in fleabag hotels along the way would curl your hair, like Anita Carter running naked through a lobby, chased by one of her band members, who was also missing most of his clothes!
