Looking at one. Store says nikon is going out of scope business. Guy behind counter thought if was a. 22 scope, but box does not say. . any input ?
Warranty maybe dicey from bass pro. Probably going on a .308, but there is a 35 whelen in the mix too
Other option is rescope a No. 1 with a 3-9 and take the redfield wide view 2-7 from it but it is hard to mount a scope on the ruger spacing

I had one on a .260 Remington Model 7. It stood up okay but I could never warm to the highly critical eyevrelief. So an old Zeus Diatal 4x32 lives on the .260 (again) and the Prostaff became part of a trade.

I've had a couple of Prostaff scopes. A 3-9x40 and a 4x32 rimfire scope. Both had excellent glass with terrific contrast for the money. Both were also chunky, particulalarly the 3-9 ocular and power ring, but not overly long. And the 4x32 had a smallish field of view compared to other 4x scopes I had.

I now have a Prostaff5 2.5-10x40 that is also fattish and with excellent glass. But the low 2.5 on this scope has excellent field of view and clarity at short range which I greatly appreciate.
It's largeness bothers me, and I had originally intended to use it on a semi auto 22 target rifle so I wouldn't have it's bulk in the field or have a bolt handle to contend with. But for now I'll use it on a Ruger that came with a high back ring and a medium front....until I can find a 2-7x33. And then I'll buy a low ring and put the BIG scope on the auto-loading 22 target rifle.

A Prostaff 2-7x32 might not have as big of an ocular bell or power ring though. And field of view could be excellent. I'm sure the glass will be nice to look through.

Rescope the No.1 with an old discontinued Zeiss Conquest 3-9X40 MC #20 Z-Plex. Darn near perfect scope for the No.1, constant 4" eye relief from 3-9 power. Also fits in the low #3 Ruger rings. Darn near perfect.
