I’ve gotta be in San Antonio this week (first time here)and I’ve got just a bit of slack time.
Seems like there oughta be some good gun stores in this town. Any suggestions?

Which side of town are you staying on? What exactly do you want to see? NSSC is worth going to if you want to shoot. Drurys, KDF (Sguin) and Sportsmans Bailiwick if you want to see higher end stuff. Lots of choices if just small shops. Sons of Liberty and a couple others for black rifles. Lots of small places....

Definitely check out Dury’s in their new location out by the airport!

Plus 1 on Dury's. There is also Nagel's, on San Pedro (though their prices have always seemed way off the mark to me . . . as far back as I can remember).
Pretty sure that Sportsman's Bailiwick went under maybe ten years back.

Nagel's on San Pedro is the best place to browse rather than buy, all sorts of stuff in there, plus there's a serious knife room if you like quality blades.
Do they have Academy Sporting Goods in TN?
Academy is prob'ly where most regular Joes and Juans buy their guns and shooting supplies around here, pretty much ran attempts by national chains like Sportsman's Warehouse and Gander Outdoors out of town when they attempted to open outlets here. Worth a look if ya ain't seen one.

When I called San Antonio home in the early and mid-90, Powder Horn and Nagel's were regular stops. Dury's on occasion, as well as a place that was outside 1604 on the SW side. Can't recall the name, but that's where I did most of my range shooting. Every once in a while I'd head up to Austin and visit McBride's.
I never thought I'd grow up to be a grumpy old man, but I did, and I'm killin' it.

Dury's and Nagel's are both good, but Nagel's looks like an old hoarders place sometimes, never quite sure what you're going to find. Agree with JohnnyLoco on Powder Horn, doesn't have the biggest selection but can have some really good deals on what they do have.
Ranger Firearms off Austin highway can be pretty good and will have some interesting used stuff at times.

Powder Horn & Nagel’s (had) more of a feel of a place where you could rummage through vintage stuff for treasure, like a thrift store or something.
Nagel’s has undergone quite the cleanup as of lately, plenty of used guns...Just not the mystical place it once was.
Mr. Day at Powderhorn knows how to move items and everything ever created will move through there sometime or another. You have to frequent the place to be there at the right time.
Those two I mentioned or the Pawn shop at 410 / Marbach are the only ones worth consistent visits to me.
Youngs guns in Kerrville have a huge inventory and prices to go with them. They will deal though.
Forums and online auctions have almost made it not worthwhile anymore to visit any of them.

I forgot to mention the main drawback to frequenting ANYTHING in the San Antonio area, the drive. The City has to be the largest land wise in the United States. When I bug out of town toward Houston in the early AM before traffic, it takes 45 minutes at 70mph to go from just outside the loop 1604 on the west to just outside on the east. You try to hit the shops that are spread from one side to the other during the day, you’ll be eating breakfast and picking up lunch somewhere before you are done.
