Does anyone know of a Gunsmith who can add or make a Wide Hammer Spur for a Ruger SP101???
I have 2 of these and since i am getting arthritis in my hands I can't cock the hammer with just one thumb I have to use both.
I have several other makes of Pistols with Wide Hammer Spurs & it is no problem to cock the Hammers so I know that is the solution for the Rugers.
Any Help??

Most, if not all, Ruger hammers are investment cast parts. I will leave it to the welders here to comment but it may not be as simple or as feasible as it would be on a traditional steel hammer.

Wondering out loud.......Seems one could find a hammer extension, such as on Marlin levers and TC contenders, to fit the spur of an SP101. I believe Uncle Mike's still makes them. Brownells also carries Grovtec brand and a few others. Some have the extension on both sides. https://www.brownells.com/search/index.htm?k=hammer+extension&ksubmit=y

It could be TIG welded and recontoured and then checkered. Not too bad of a job.

You canot do it.
To assemble and reassemble the revolver you must pass the hammer spur up through the slot in the frame. If you make the spur wide it will not go up into the frame. I have an SP101 and have disassembled it many times. Look at your instruction book and you will see what I mean.
I suggest that you trade your pistol into another like a Smith and Weson, or even a Taurus.

Definitely a shade-tree solution, but you could possibly go with a bolt on spur as used in lever action rifles, handi rifles, things like that. I just put a wide one on a handi rifle. Drill a pilot hole in the side of the hammer to give the set screw something to mechanically lock into, red loctite, etc. It's obviously an ugly idea, but?
