Help! I bought a Ruger 77/22 that was rebarreled to .17 K Hornet by Tooley Custom. I knew I had seen .22 K Hornet data, so I bought it. I can’t find anything about the 17 k Hornet. Anyone have any leads where I can find dies and data? Thanks in advance.

If you start a little low with powder charges, to accommodate differences in chambers/throats/bores/wear, data for the .17 Hornady Hornet works fine in .17 K-Hornets--especially if you use today's slower-burning powders, such as A1680, which generate less pressure than the old-time standards.

The powder capacity is very close, despite the slightly different case dimensions.

Small Pistol primers and A1680 have worked for me.

Following this thread. A Martini Cadet has moved to the front of the line for customization, and the .17 Hornet/K-Hornet is on the short list.

Note: Why is it called .17 "K" Hornet? Did Lyle Kilbourn actually cook it up? (He was the K in K-Hornet.) No mention is made by Landis, chronicler of the wildcat movement of the '30's-40's.

From what I have researched, P.O. Ackley apparently necked down the .22 K-Hornet to .17. But if anybody has other info, would love to hear.

I was looking at chamber prints for both the 17 Ackley Hornet and 17 K Hornet and noticed the only real difference was the shoulder angle. 30 degrees for the Ackley and 35 degrees for the K. I would think one could use Ackley data for the K.
