I do heck yeah. Always keep a box for when mama's not home and papa's gotta do the cooking. Not often but I can make some killer instant mashed taters. I'm a hell's kitchen gourmet chef when it comes to instant mashed taters. Dress them up a little with some cheese, no complaints here.

Well, sounds like your most important customer is satisfied. I never thought real mashed taters were much of a chore. Just don't go putting any packet gravy on those taters. There's folks here that get real torn up about that subject.

Eat what you like, it's your right If I'm at your house, I'll eat them and tell you supper was good. (The only time Momma condoned lying)
If you visit here, The taters will be real.
I love mashed potatoes, I never eat them in a resturant. I don't have to taste them to know if they are fake. Just like canned corn, if you hand me the bowl, My nose knows.

I've had some that were very good; none that were awful.

I take the packets on backpacking hunts. Fast and a bunch of calories, makes a nice change from a mountain house.

With as tasteless as "fresh" taters have been lately I like instant more and more. Big fan of the Idahoan brand butter and herb flavor. Still prefer the texture of the real thing though. What I have done lately is make real mashed potatoes. Mix on the wet side then add the instant til I get the consistency I want. Get perfect seasoned mashed potatoes that feel like real mashed potatoes in your mouth and taste like something.
Other thing that has helped with the flavor is baking the potatoes instead of boiling. I bake them real hot so I get nice crispy skin. Peel them while they are still hot and the skins come right off. The skin will usually come off in one piece if it crispy. Also makes a great snack while your mashing the taters.

We keep a box of both instant mashed, and scalloped potatoes at our north place. Just in case.

Always keep a box in the cabinet.

They're pretty good for shortcuts. If you're ever craving potato pancakes and don't want to spend a lot of time on it, the instant potato mix can actually be used with good results.

Helps a lot if you dump some onion powder and garlic powder into the mix before you add the water. Cheddar or 4 cheese blend adds flavor as well.
