now the tire store tells me I should have the best tread on the back, not the front for front wheel drive.
I disagree regardlesss of what the experts say.

At the shops I've worked at we always recommended every other oil change, so about 10k km or 6000 miles.

5-6K miles.
The wife let it go to 10K or 12K once, & the tires were noisy SOB's forever after that. i finally tossed 'em & started over with another brand.

Free balance and rotation at Discount Tire so every 5000-6000 miles for me. I quit buying from the local guys because they rotated for free but charged $10/tire to balance.

Wife's cousin owns a Tire & Auto repair shop where I buy all my tires and get oil changes and what not. I have them rotate the tires about every other oil change. Rotation is free if the tires were purchased there.

I do it every 10K miles. I do it myself and don't want to break out the jacks any sooner than that. I don't see any real reason to do it any sooner, I don't think that adds any life.

have been getting tires at Les Schwab for a few years as we're too far from other places.
They'll inspect the tires, air them up and rotate them if needed whenever I pull in there, which I've been known to do just because I'm in town. Usually they don't need the rotation. The other thing is we have dedicated sets of winter and summer tires on two of the vehicles, so they don't get that much mileage on them before it's time to swap them out again.
I'd say it averages about 5K miles or so between "rotations".

I disagree regardlesss of what the experts say. ^^^^ This. For the most part, wherever the front wheels can go, the back wheels will follow.

Every 5,000 at Discount Tire. On their second rotation, after 10,000 miles of use, my Michelin Defenders had used 1/32" of tread. Service manager said "I knew these were good tires, but I didn't think they were THAT good."

Every other oil change, which means 10,000 miles. I used to change my own oil, and still do in everything but my newest vehicles, the ones I drive the most. The Ford dealership will change the oil, and rotate the tires, and do check on other things, for about $15 or 20 bucks more than it will cost me to do it myself..........and that means I don't have to crawl up under one, and then clean the mess up.

Kind of depends on how hard on them you are. Do you haul butt around corners, stop hard, lead foot, don't keep the air pressure right? Then rotate them more often. For most 5-6K is sufficient.

Every oil change for truck tires, every other for car. Obviously depending on mileage.
