@ Utah708 - DAMN!
That’s a sweet rifle, sir.
But, did you notice that big screw up with it? Very sloppy.
The bolt’s on the wrong side...😂
Hey, that’s a fine rifle by all means. Congratulations on that one!

The 7 mm Rem mag looks great on paper. I've had several over the years. Until I bought a chronograph. No sarcasm, no criticism. I’m sorry for your disappointment. Was it your rifle ? Loads ? Or chronograph ? I’ve lost count of how many 7 mags I’ve had. Have 3 in house today. None have been disappointing to me. 700 Classic, B B R, 700 BDL, 700 Syn (ADL) and Tikka T 3X SS off the top of my head. 139 hbtsp - 3300 FPS 154 HSP - 3150 + 160 N P. - 3100 + Those bullets & velocities are IN Load manuals. Nothing to be disappointed about. A F A I C Jerry BTW, I have an Oehler.

If you shoot factory ammo you'll be disappointed. If you have a chrony you should be able to handload. My M70 stainless was built by Jon Beanland and uses H1000 behind a 145 Barnes LRX at 3225 fps out of it's 24" Bartlein barrel. When it goes bang something dies, quickly. It does not disappoint.

I've never had a 26" bll on a 7 mag. I also remember another 'rifle' I owned in that cartridge....I'll never admit to owning it. PO C If you shoot factory ammo you'll be disappointed. This ^^^^ made me to re collect. I have NEVER bought NOR shot 1 round of Factory Ammo in the 7 magS. Same for my 6mm Rem, 308 W (past), 30-06 ever, 8mm RM, 358 Win, and the list goes on. I started handloading in 1974 for a reason. Jerry

Factory ammo is anemic compared to what the 7mm RM can do but there is a great and plentiful variety and even at factory velocities it will get the job done at ranges well past where most people take shots. Handloaders, of course, have multiple advantages - of which velocity increases are one. My 7mm RM saw a few boxes of factory ammo before I started reloading and I still have a partial box of 160g Federal/Nosler Partitions from 1982. Since then only handloads - and no disappointment.

No, I'm not a Ruger bigot - just an unabashed fan of their revolvers, M77's and #1's.
A good .30-06 is a 99% solution.

I have 2 7 mags, One is a Voere Model 603 ( Parker Ballard) the other is a Win 70 Black Shadow. Both are absolute hammers on deer. My Black shadow only has a 24" Barrel, but I am looking to upgrade, however every time I go to pull the trigger on it, something comes up that takes my gun money.

Love a 7mm Mag, and it has become very popular, especially for the deer hunter who dreams of going elk hunting some day. I have owned many through the years, but only one in 26". It was the first time I reached 3100/160 with accuracy. I then went and played with the 7mm STW, and the 7mm RUM. All good shooters too. My Marine SIL bought a Tikka T3 Lite synthetic in 7mm Rem mag off a guy in WY. He hunts down in this super deep "hole of a canyon", and wanted a LWT. He didn't have time to work up a load, so we zeroed it with HSM ammo using the 168 Berger. It was so accurate it was scary, ha. He shot a 5pt that year.

It seems a lot of us like them. I have a couple 700’s, a Kleinguenther, and a couple of Sako’s. I might get a Remington 798. One of the 700’s and the Kleinguenther have 26” barrels. I have 264’s, 270 WSM’s 300 Win mags, 300 Weatherby’s 300 WSM and 338 Win mags, but the 7 mag is my favorite by far.

I have one in a model 700. It’s not fancy, 700 ADL synthetic converted to BDL in a second hand SPS stock. Shoots a variety of loads well and works on the game I hunt near or far.

I have been using a Model 700 XCR with the 26 inch barrel for the past 10 years. I have taken 11 deer with it, mainly using 156 to 162 grain bullets. Its done a great job, but I am not so sure that it did any better than any of the 30.06's that I used years before the 7MM Magnum. Most deer kills were at 105 yards or less.

I have a 7 Mag in an older tang-safety Ruger 77. It belonged to my now-deceased uncle and my wife bought it for me for Christmas perhaps 20 years ago. Unfortunately we can't use rifles in our state for deer hunting, but I've taken it out west and took a couple of mulies with it quite a few years ago and before buying a 22-250 it did coyote duty here. Yes, a 175gr soft-point will exit a coyote in spectacular glory!

My dad bought the first 7 mag model 700 that came to our part of the state back in 1962. My son still shoots it with 69 grains of H4831 and 150 grain Partition. Lost count of the number of elk it has put down. The last one in my safe is my dad;s B-78 Browning single shot. Same load and same dead elk stories. I know, you won't find that load in todays manuals but it is in my old manual from the 60's.
