I’ll be in Scottsdale for 5 days next week at some resort w the wife. While she’s getting massages n stuff I’ll be plenty bored. Anything for an outdoorsman to do around there? Fishing? Sporting goods stores, hiking?

Thanks

You can always get a $27 car wash. It's a golf town, not a "huntn and fishn" town, so you're not going to find much in the way of guns and rods. Lots of high-priced art, blocks and blocks of very luxury car dealers, golf, and enclosed residential areas open to residents only. That's Scottsdale.

Joining my brothers there mid April so this interest me. Spring training should be going on and golf courses galore in the area. Used to attend the big Arabian horse show there years ago and the Camel back mountains are the backdrop , thought hiking them in the cooler weather might be interesting.

I took the tour at Taliesin West (Frank Lloyd Wright's desert home and design school) last month and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Acua Fria National Monument is about 40 miles north of Phoenix on the east side of I-17. 70,000+ acres that could accommodate some rambling.

Some neat places in Old Town Scottsdale
Bourbon and Bones for a great dinner$$$$
Rusty Spur Saloon small cool old saloon from the 50s with live music daily
I did find a great gun shop just north of Scottsdale in Carefree. Old West Guns and trading. No new junk, all cool old stuff! Worth the drive in my opinion.

Old Town is a great area to walk around. There are also a couple interesting museums around Old Town.
I'm told the Phoenix Botanical Gardens is spectacular.....
There is also a great art show that goes on for a few months north of the area, but worth the drive. I attended it last year. Loved it! The Celebration of Fine Art.

You might check out the Scottsdale Gun Club. I've only been there once but it was a blast and I would go again if I were ever in Scottsdale again. Sit in on a safety training class, rent a weapon from their selection (assuming being from out of town you may not have your own with you), purchase the ammo, and have a great time. As far as weapons available to rent if you can think of it they most likely rent it including machine guns.

Scottsdale is upscale, touristy, trendy, restrictive, nightclubs, casinos on the rez and high end strip joints.

Good fishing won't start for a month but you can drive up to Bartlett lake, checkout 7 springs, ramble around.

Basspro and Sportsmans in Mesa, Cabelas in Glendale, small gun shops all over do a mapquest search.

Drive to Prescott and check out places there.

Rain coming in monday and tuesday then getting good again.

Phoenix zoo and Botanical gardens.

There are offroad tour companies, seen them but as I have my own offroad vehicles I've never done one, some are jeeps that hold multiple people and a guide on a speaker, others are atv trail rides.

When I’m there, I like to climb to the top of Camelback Mountain and Piestewa Peak both. And now is a great time of year to do it.

Beautiful country. I could drive around for days in the area and be more than happy. If it were me, I'd rent a motorcycle at Eagle Rider in Scottsdale for the duration of the trip and ride every minute the wife let me. The HD Street Glide is $645 for a five day rental. AZ Ride.com out of Scottsdale has Goldwings (the new goldwings are freaking awesome, and thats coming from someone sub 50 years old grin) and adventure bikes, so pick your poison. Heck I'd love to be in your shoes. I'd weasel my way into an entire day of riding and hit the Grand Canyon, 450 miles round trip, easily doable.

Scottsdale Gun Club. C2 Firearms near the 101 and Scottsdale Road. Bear Arms. Just a few of the local gun stores if you're into such things.

Take a day trip to Sedona or Prescott or Payson. Drive up to the lakes east of town. Go to Tucson for a day. Zoo, museums, etc. Phoenix area is a big metro area.

Spring training in March but it sounds like you'll miss that.

More restaurants than you can shake a stick at.

What do you like to do?
