The Lady running the lathe taught Bristoe.
My wife’s uncle married a British War bride who during the war did Spitfire repairs by day and ran the spotlights at night during German bombing runs over London and other areas.
She’s buried in a small family cemetery in Louisiana. At her interment the VFW Honor Guard gave her a 21 Gun Salute in farewell. She was a man’s woman.

My Dad's mother worked in the shipyards in Ca. during WWII. Dad worked there for a short time, while waiting for his 18 birthday so he could join the Navy.

do you think these women loved their country? One way to find out. Would they do it without pay?

Bear, the war bride that I mentioned received no pay for running the spot lights and got ration cards for working on the Spitfires. I had heard most women then, made more money than they ever had in their lives. Most were house wives, I believe. Just wondering if capitalism could hold up if money ran out.

My mother got out of high school in 1944. Got a job immediately and became a lab technician in short order. Got all kinds of on the job training because most of the lab tech's were in the military. Normally it would take several years to work up the ladder to that position but they were very short handed due to the war. Friend of mine's mom spent the war assembling Norden Bombsights.

My mother in laws sister served in the plane plants in Calif. during the war.
She was a colorful woman.
That woman could cuss a blue streak then ask would you like some sugar for your coffee.

America's industrial efforts during WWII were truly prodigious and women like these were part of it.
Too bad we targeted the wrong genocidal totalitarian regime menacing Europe during "The War to Save Bolshevism."
