I have an opportunity to buy two Ruger M77 tang rifles in excellent condition in 7mm Rem Mag and 300 Win Mag. I suspect I can get a very good deal if I take both in a package deal. I know there is a lot of "crossover" between the two, but how best could they be set up to complement each other? Or are they simply too similar and the allure of a "great deal" simply isn't enough to offset that.

I have owned them both for many years.. My late wife took over the 7 after hunting with it a couple times.. I prefer the .300, but still use the 7 quite often just for a change.. I would get them both and never look back.. Two of the greatest calibers we have...

I've owned both but not at the same time. With that said I do have my eyes peeled for a 300 Win mag to compliment my 7 Rem.

If they are a great deal then grab both. If you have to choose then go with the 7. GreggH

Buy both. Try both. If you feel the two are redundant, move along the one you prefer less.
As long as the package is a good enough deal you could easily move one of the two along and not feel like you lost money then you can’t go wrong.

Also own both, and would grab the pair if you have the money and deal is good. If I could only keep one I’d choose my 7RM.

Sounds like a plan. You could do 140 Accubonds and 160 Partitions in the 7Mag, 180's and 200's in the 300 Win Mag! ya! gwb

The magnum tangers are heavy barreled, thick stocked rifles, FWIW. Not nimble by any means.
How do you know a Trump hater? They'll tell you.

pee. My first magnum was a 77 tanger in 300 WM.
It didn’t have a heavy bll but yes the forearm was bulbous.
Some like fore heavy. It’s a personal thing.
Micro, I can promise the 300 WM will punch harder BECAUSE.. of the Red Pad. > faux > recoil pad.

I have both, sort of. I don't have a .300 Win. Mag, I have a .300 Weatherby, but close enough.

Like others here, I have and like both - a tanger 7mm RM and a MKII .300WM. I ran 160g bullets in the 7mm RM until I started acquiring .30 caliber rifles. Now I run 140g in the 7mm RM while the .300 gets 168g and heavier.
Favorite loads include 140g Nosler AB and 140g Barnes TTSX in the 7mm and Barnes 175g LRX and 180g TTSX in the .300.
Is there some overlap in capability? Yes - quite a lot of it. Buy both anyway.
Coyote Hunter - NRA Patriot Life, NRA Whittington Center Life, GOA, DAD - and I VOTE!
No, I'm not a Ruger bigot - just an unabashed fan of their revolvers, M77's and #1's.
A good .30-06 is a 99% solution.

I have them both, I shoot 140’s in the 7 mag, 165’s in the 300 Win, but 150’s would be great too. If I had to choose, it be 7 mag, because I like the cshit out of them. You absolutely can’t go wrong with either.-

77's are wayyyyyyy short in COAL and both are an easy pass for that reason...besides the Blued/Walnut bullschit. Hint.

As a kid after I graduated from a borrowed .30-30, I used another guy's western rifle, a rather nice pre-64 M70 .300 WM. I shot a lot of deer with that rifle, but was always padded up pretty well during a Wisconsin deer season. Even with all the puffy padding, the thing recoiled and barked way more than I liked to say nothing of how much more it weighed compared to the other guns in camp. When I got old enough to afford my own one size fits all rifle, it was going to be a 7mm RM and not another big .300. Both cartridges blew the heck out of the woods behind the deer, but that 7mm RM worked really well out west and my elk were just as dead as the .300 WM and .338 WM elk were. My kid made the mistake of getting a "good deal" on a .300 Weatherby Magnum and I still remember the stricken look on his face the first time that he touched that thing off. Too much of a good thing for these parts. I never buy stuff because something is a good deal, I buy stuff that will be useful.
My other auto is a .45

I think the 300wm shines for being able to spit those long 200gr pills out. This in my mind is for bigger game. The 7mm, not that it can’t and hasn’t been used on bigger game, but in my mind is for smaller and medium sized game. Spitting those 140’s or 160’s fairly flat and with plenty of bang flopness. Noticeable difference in recoil. Having both gets my vote. Of course, you could be just as happy hunting most game with either one.

Big elk die right now with the 7mm Rem Mag. I don’t know if big elk qualify as medium game. I can’t speak to the 300 Win Mag as I’ve never shot one.
