Walk into my LGS to pick up a 16 gauge Wingmaster that was getting a new pad and sling stud and on the sale rack was a 2012 Winchester Model 70 .338 Alaskan. Last year made in the USA. The gun was old stock and had been hiding in the back since it came in 8 years ago. Price was real good. I need a 338 like an extra wife. What would you do?

If I liked it and thought I'd use it, I'd buy it.. whistle

I'd never talk someone out of a 70 nor a 338....

You came to the wrong place if you want help being talked off that ledge, lol. A M70 for a good price? You know what to do. Or, you could tell us what gun shop it is in and maybe it will find a good home.

Good point... Forgot to check the date - just saw "M70 .338 Alaskan - cheap".. I have to read slower.. laugh I have just ONE BACO - and that's enough... Just keeping it due to it's a SG and a somewhat rare chambering... Have to sell it in 3 years..

A wood stocked, blued rifle has no place in coastal Alaska. Well, maybe in a humidity controlled gun safe . . .

Update....I couldn’t resist and brought the BACO 338 home. Now I’m debating changing the magazine spring to get 4+1 and having it bedded into a McMillan or MC Echols stock.

You bet, it'll be a fine rifle, I'd put an Ernie spring in it and rock on the some 300gr Partitions at 2680 fps and BBW#13 or Barnes solids at the same weight and speed.

Pends upon what your hunting, some guns aren't all day models just like some women. So indeed you really might need it. MB

Cranial corrosion, I've cleaned my cables, I was thinking 375 H&H, not enough coffee or sleep as of late, plus, I just shot my old Browning Safari 458 yesterday too, have Big Bores on the brain, in the case of the 338WM, 250gr SAF's or Partitions at an accurate 2750. smile

Being from Utah, I would vote for the extra wife.

Now, since we are talking 338wm, I ran across a killer deal on 6 bags of 250gr Nosler partions a while back. $15.00/bag. Couldn't say no to those prices. When I shoot up all my 225gr Hornady, I'll be loading those partitions up. They should shoot pretty good out of my old Pre 64 338WM...

I may have also left out that I have a 1938 375 and 1940s transition 30-06 also on the way. I should have never started looking.
