What’s a good brand of PTO powered rotary mower for mowing dove food plots? Needs to be only 6-8 feet wide. It will mow about 10 acres per year.
Saw a King Kutter advertised for I believe $1100. Anyone know of the quality of that brand?
Thanks

Nothing wrong with the King Kutter brand, IMO.

I've had a 72" for quite a few years with no issues.

What HP tractor?

You may need more if you go past 6'.

King cutter's are good implements.

40hp and a 6' rotary cutter is perfectly fine.

Find an old bushog model 306. 90hp gearbox. 7ga deck. 1100 lbs. price shop those specs and see what it costs today. I guarantee you the king kutter you mention won’t be near that heavy or have that size of gearbox.

Mine is a mid 70’s model. Every time call about a part , it is in stock.

I’ve got a no name brand outta Alabama.

6’

Cut more than it should have. If i can drive over it. It’ll cut it. Maybe have to back up and feather it down on big stuff.

Make sure your slip clutch works good.

Buy the cheapest new one you can find if that’s all you plan to do with it. 6’ would be a maximum size for a 40 hp tractor. The cheap ones will be lighter to pick up, and you’ll never tear it up doing something light like you describe.

Get one that will cut out your tire width. Compare brands in your area and look for weight, gear box HP rating and blade tip speed. The more the better in all categories. Factor those three inputs into what you want to spend. Most cutters will have shear pins. That will work, but I always liked slip clutches. You don't have to worry about having used your last pin and almost done. If you get shear pin, don't substitute grade 5 bolt. The last two rotary cutters I bought, Rhino checked all the boxes within compromise. That was ten years ago since last bought one, so that may have changed.
