Looking for some help gentlemen. I am mid-stream with a new, fast twist 25-06 I'm putting together with the idea of shooting the 131 ACE Blackjack. It's an impressive bullet and I'm excited to give it a go. My most immediate issue (beyond the fact that my rifle isn't back from re-barreling yet)….is that neither of the powders that I can find load data for (R26 and Retumbo) are obtainable locally.

As such, I was wondering if Quickload could give me some estimates maybe? If not, I'm open to suggestions that any of you might have.

Dave

p.s.

Here is the bullet in question for those of you with any interest. The 131 ACE is on the left, and that's a 7mm 168 Berger VLD on the right for sake of comparison.

Be interested to see how this goes Dave, what’s the parts list? That’s a slick sumbitch for sure

Jud,

Nothing exotic. A 700 action with a Preferred Barrel Blanks #1 tube in a KS Edge stock. it's a 1:7.5 twist, and should finish at .635ish at 24". I'm hoping to be about the 6.5 pound range sans scope and rings.

Dave.

p.s. Love the Gable reference and couldn't agree more with it.

Can't find any of that either aalf. There appears to be a national shortage for those slow burning powders.

Powder Valley, Natchez, Grafs, Midway...all out of the R33, R26, IMR 8133, H1000, IMR 7977, and Retumbo.....seems like a pattern.

Hell if I know bud, that’s why I was asking. I’m going to give it a try though, as I already have plenty on hand for my .280.

You’re killing me gentlemen. Some of you aren’t hearing me when I say those powders are NOT obtainable locally or anywhere on the internet as near as I can tell.

Saw the 25 Creedmore data of course, but the only 25-06 data I see Is for two powders that I can’t get my hands on...thus the original post.

IMR 7828 was the powder of choice in one of my 6-284's with 105's. Might be worth a "shot" since you have it on hand.

Lucky for me I have H-1000 and 26 on the shelf..... grin

i have had better consistent 5 shot groups with Nosler 115 gr. B.T. bullets over Black Jack 131 gr. bullets so far. out of 2 different rifles with 2 different cartridges, both of these rifles have 7 1/2 twist barrels. but when it warms up some outside i plan on trying some other powders like Rel.26 will be one of them. the 2 cartridges are 257 Roberts that shoots under 1/2 inch 5 shot groups consistently and a 25 Creedmoor that also shots 5 shot 1/2 inch groups both with the Nosler 115gr.B.T.,both will do these smaller groups with H4350 and Rel.17. i still have high hopes for the 131 gr. Black Jack bullets ?

If this gun doesn’t shoot the 131s with at least ONE powder...it will be re-tubed ASAP as 115 BTs do nothing for me personally. Time will tell I guess.
