I had a 6.5 PRC bbl put on a long action. obviously lots or room! It actually feeds ok till you fire a 2 shots and the remaining round goes forward jams. Sloppy loosie goosy.
Anyway to modify a long action box to work with the shorter PRC round?

I have an old Vanguard long action in 243, with no spacer or block. The rounds click back and forth when you tip the gun. Never had it not feed.
Wish I knew why?
Look at a Model 700 in 204,221, 222, 223. They have a block.
Also, M70's pre 64 in any short action, and some post. Savage only made long actions in the 110 for a number of years, Look at any of those for ideas.
Unfortunately, I don't thin any of those would have been made for cases of the PRC diameter. Maybe, scrounge old parts?

Do a search for posts by aalf with 6.5PRC in the subject.
IIRC, he modified a LA mag box by installing a spacer (same concept as the spacer in a Rem 700 .223 mag box) and shortened the follower (milled version).
On my 6.5PRC, built on a Bighorn LA Mag, I fooled around with various magazines and followers, and never got to a point I was satisfied. Put all the 700 BDL mag components off to the side and installed Hawkins M5 DBM and use 300 WIn Mag AICS mags. Problem solved.
I never thought I'd grow up to be a grumpy old man, but I did, and I'm killin' it.

Thanks for the info. I have used up all my patience dicking around with 700 pieces.
Does the Hawkins metal fit a BDL inlet?
Where did you get yours.
Thanks!

Lefty No, the Hawkins DBM does not fit the BDL inlet. I snapped up a Grayboe Terrain from Redhawk Rifles when they were offering the Terrain and choice of DBMs for $399ish. Once I knew that M5 DBM and an AICs mag had cured my ills, I sent a McM L/A Game Hunter w/BDL inlet that I'd been holding onto back to McM and had it re-inletted for the Hawkins DBM. FWIW, the Grayboe is a pretty decent stock. I like the ergos - very close to the McM Game Hunter. I think (JMHO) that the forend is a not quite as stiff as the McM, and it is certainly heavier than my ultralight CF McM.
