Wondering if anybody has shot the Berger 270, 170g, VLD bullets? I was planning on shooting them in a 6.8-284 target rifle. I'm sure they'll be fine as most bergers are but thought maybe someone here had experience with them.

I won't have any problem stabilizing them I'm running a 28" Brux barrel with 1-9 twist, I was shooting 165g matrix but can no longer get those so I pickup up these Bergers instead.

The Extreme Outer Limits had a big booth set up this weekend at the Hunt Expo, they were selling a bunch of the Berger EOL bullets. They might be a good source of information since they helped Berger develop them. incredible B.C. of .662

I don’t think the .277 170gr VLD is going to work in your 6.5-284.

kansas99,

I have actually had good luck with the 170 EOL with standard 1-10 twist .270 Winchesters at my elevation in Montana. Getting fine accuracy with both RL-26 and IMR7977 at around 2750 fps, from 22" barrels.

Of course, Berger's twist program shows BC is slightly compromised by the twist, but still shows a G7 of .315, which means the G1 would still be around .620.

Thanks Mule, I've loaded some loads to test this morning. Starting load for H1000 at 55 max of 60 and some H4831 at 50 max of 56. Thought I'd give these 2 a try they worked well with the 165g matrix but I've got 7828 and H4350 as well if needed. I've heard RL-26 works well in the 284 case also but I'm not fimiliar with IMR7977. Hopefully 1000 or 4831 work well they seem to be easy to find. The H1000 is compressed above 58g but when I ran it with the 165g matrix there was no pressure sign at 60g of H1000 but 56g of H4831 was max with the matrix. I'm not sure but the 170 EOL bullet seems to have roughly .020 less bearing surface so hoping that helps with pressure(maybe not).

Guess I'll find out when I make it to the range.

My apologies. Funny how the brain sometimes sees what it expects to see instead of what is.

I had to read it a couple of times to make sure that is what I was seeing also. Funny how the brain works sometimes.
