Well....wet tumbled some brass last night and put in the oven to dry at 200 degrees....shut it off after a while and went to bed. Didn’t take them out before leaving for work this morning and when I get home my wife has turned the oven on 400 degrees to cook pizzas...and it is fully preheated and I don’t know for how long. What I do know is the brass isn’t shiny any longer, has a bluish shine where it doesn’t look copper.
Is 400 degrees enough to “cook” them and render them scrap?
Don’t feel like eating pizza...

Don’t know for sure, but I suspect you annealed the case heads. I wouldn’t chance it.

That’s my thought from the looks of it....nothing like frying 200 rounds of twice fired brass😟

If you hold brass at 525F for an hour, you just barely begin to detect the early stages of annealing.
Be not weary in well doing.

Check the sticky threads for brass prep. I think the guy who wrote a series of posts noted that he used tempilaq 650 degree...

I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

I thought annealing took place at about 650 to 800 degrees a the case neck. Might be a question for Mule Deer.

While I can’t say for certain in your instance. I had a very similar thing happen with some 223 brass a few years back. I’m still using it to this day.

Thanks everyone. Going to chalk this one up to an expensive lesson, but not going to take the risk of it being more expensive from a non-monetary outlook. I just don't know how hot the brass actually got, or for how long as it would have been subjected, at a minimum, to the heating element getting the oven up to temp.
Better safe than sorry.

Better safe than sorry. Then send it to Gemby. Someone should get some use out of it.

Not a metallurgist, just thinking about my time in HS shop class. What if he heated them up again, then dropped into cold water. Will water quenched brass harden similar to steel? Will the end result be too brittle?

Food dehydrator that’s what I use after wet tumbling
Then STFU. The rest of your statement is superflous bullshit with no real bearing on this discussion other than to massage your own ego. Suckin' on my titties like you wanted me.
