I bought this Ruger 77 .30-06 years ago to hunt elk. Never got a shot in two seasons, so one year grabbed it to go deer hunting. Now I can't put it down, it goes most of the time. Even uses the 180gr load I worked up to go elk hunting. Good honest rifle.

SS Classic M70 Fwt in 270Win shooting 140gn TSX. I've hunted that rifle from just off the US/Mexico border to ~40Mi inland from the Arctic Ocean. Deer, elk, caribou, pigs, and I borrowed it to a gal who used it for her WSMR Oryx.

Stainless Browning 260. Had it for 20 years, it has killed everything I have pointed it at, with one shot. It has killed critters in TX, KS, WY, AL and AZ.

I know some dont think too highly of them, but I love that gun.

No, I'm not a Ruger bigot - just an unabashed fan of their revolvers, M77's and #1's.

No you're not alone. There's two kinds of people, those that own a pre 64 Winchester and those that wished they did. I'm unfortunately one of the latter.

I’ve been hunting deer for over 50 years, mostly with a Rem 700 in 270 Win. So, my favorite deer rifle is a Mark X Mauser in 35 Whelan.

My custom 280 Ackley Imp. built on a Model 70 CRF action. Taken lots of deer and 1 elk over the past 25+ years.

Mine is quickly becoming the Remington 700 mountain rifle in .308 win I've hunted the last 3 years. Carries like a dream. Shoots wonderfully. Does everything I can ask of a rifle.

I thought that would be an easy decision to make until I thought about it a minute or two. I love hunting and shooting with different types of rifles depending on where I'm going to be hunting and who I'm hunting with. I've probably shot more deer with a Ruger 77 in 30/06 than any other rifle and still have one ready to go at all times. My Ruger Number One that has been a 270, a 6.5x55 and is now a 243 would come in close second and tied with my Marlin 336 in 44magnum. My favorite deer rifle is of my early 1900's rifles with a receiver sight. It doesn't matter which one.

Sako Finnwolf in 243. I have had more fun hunts w/ that rifle than any other.

My favorite is my first centerfire rifle, bought in 1974. It’s a Rem 700 ADL 25/06. Still have it.

Great thread. The only problem is that this is like asking which of your kids you like best !

I have two. The first is a Winchester Featherweight in 7mm-08, with the most beautiful factory stock I've ever seen. Stock looks custom with the magnificent wood grain, and shoots under an inch.

The second is a Kimber Montana in .308 - light, easy to carry, and accurate as can be. Deer-slaying machine.

Last two of all that I'd ever sell.
