I can't run the search function here worth a flip, but, Whitworth or JWP, could you guys enlighten me on what I thought I remembered?
Am I remembering correctly that the 325gr Swift A Frame bullet held up on truly large game [water or cape buffalo] better than hardcast bullets? not counting the punch bullets, if so, I'm going to purchase some 325gr SAF's for my 454.
Thanks in advance, gunner

I would use A-frames long before cast bullets particularly at .454 velocities. They are tough bullets that can handle high impact velocities and they go deep. It’s a great bullet. I have a friend who has used them on two Cape buffalo not to mention a slew of other bovines and they always seem to deliver the goods. I’ve used them on smaller game and they work in these applications as well.

GREAT! Thanks Whitworth1, I thought I had remembered reading that somewhere, it caused me to have a come to Jesus moment as I thought 'nothing' short of a solid would penetrate with heat treated hard cast bullets, i'll get some ordered and be looking for a good stout load in the neighborhood of 1550. mirage243, Thank You too my Friend, I'm under the influence of day-quil and ny-quil, pea brains been a more than normal scattered mess the this week.

I got banned on another web site for a debate that happened on this site. That's a first

I have two loads for it, 300gr Cast Performance at an easy and fun to shoot 1350 fps, and a hellbender load with the 335gr Cast Performance at 1585, that one's a bucker.

I intend to use 300 grain Swift A-Frame bullets in my FA .454 Casull next month for a Bison meat hunt. I have no doubt that this bullet choice will work well, as it has on all kinds of really large game.

Gunner, when you "break the code" on that A Frame, pass it on, please. Sounds promising.

Bighorn, Congrats and good luck on the hunt, hope you'll give us a report here when you get back.
Jorge, will do, ordered a couple boxes from Natchez today, I have the better part of an 8lb jug of 296 and some new Starline brass out in the shop.

Jorge, no speeds or accuracy yet, but did meet UPS guy on the way into the farm this evening, was hoping he left me a couple boxes of A-Frames, he did! ran out to the load shop while Wife warmed dinner, threw 27gr 296 under a 325gr SAF in a new Starline case, it'll be lit with a CCI-450 SRM primer, gave it a good Mac/RJM neck-down crimp, will fire it for speed tomorrow when I get caught up, meanwhile, I have a loaded round to coon finger till I can go shooting. Round dropped nicely in all five chambers.

Looking forward to the report! I use H-110 primarily along with WSR primers and shoot Woody's 325gr hard cast... Very accurate.

I'm done Jorge, 27.5gr 296 ran them 1498 fps, close enough to 1500 fps for me, I checked Swifts website and noticed the pistol A-Frames looked about the same from 1500 down to 1300 fps impact velocity.
I put 5 rounds off a bag rest into 3 inches at 50 yards, I cant shoot any handgun better than that, also covers my 50-60 yard max hunting range nicely, I have 90 rounds loaded and ready to go hunting.
