So what can one do to prepare for a Coronavirus pandemic?
Buy masks? Stockpile food? Fuel? Stock up on medicine? What medicines?

I went to Dollar General 3 weeks and got 17 cans Dinty-Moore beef stew, 4 battalion sized trays of those vanilla creme cookies and 3 12-packs of Natty Light.
Had to hide it all from my kids.

Got all that stuff except fuel. I've about given up on stocking up on fuel due to it going bad so easily now.

there’s no prep for it, I’m fugged anyway
1 still in high school 1 in college that commutes from home Wife works in public health: she’s already part of the rapid situational deployment response. 2nd in command at our county level.
She’ll bring that shît home to all of us if the kids dont first.
I could go live with my mother in law on the other part of the farm but I might get crushed by a hoard of 20,000 boxed up Barbie dolls.

Daughter is at K State which is home to a lot of foreigners and lots of "research" facilities. About ten miles away is Fort Riley...Ground Zero for the Spanish Flu.

Live life normally. My co-workers in China haven't been allowed to come into work for over a month now. I think I'll keep my Google-Fiber internet even though they raised the price.

The masks are for feel good only. They don't help a bit with the virus. It goes right through them.

Thats China. I might be a bit different there.
But we ran scared a few times with other bugs so to speak. I"ve basically been front line health care for a number of years. Never got anything serious.
Unless you are immune compromised I'd not worry at all.
As to supplies, anyone that doesn't have a few months if not 6 months or more of supplies on hand period they are not living very smart.
Fuel is an issue, and if you want to stockpile it then non ethanol only, high octane, seafoam, and octane booster on hand IMHO. Only issues we'll have are power outages which kill the frozen/fresh food storage, but those days we would be working hard to salt and dry everything we could at that point.
Masks are never a bad thing in you live in the city. But then again we keep masks on hand here all the time even rural country for various reasons just like surgical gloves.
Just step back a bit and think about so many more things that a current virus. Civil unrest, tornado, hurricane, power outages, democrats being in charge and so on. To not have the minimums isn't smart.
If the stuff gets bad here too, you simply don't move about more than you have to. And wash your hands anyway and hand sanitizer. I don't hand sanitize so much in the summer, but winter yes, and taking mom to dr appts etc.... all the time. Running EMS calls all the time...
Its no more than simple common sense.

It appears to only be deadly for those of East Asian ancestry.

The masks are for feel good only. They don't help a bit with the virus. It goes right through them. They work in the sense that they keep you from being able to touch your mouth or nose with your contaminated fingers.

They work in the sense that they keep you from being able to touch your mouth or nose with your contaminated fingers. The virus doesn't travel through the air on its own. It does so on tiny droplets of water, which droplets are indeed stopped by the masks.
