Have any before shots of the blades?

There was a prop guy in Gulfport that had a business name of the Proptoligist.

He was darn good.

They weren't that bad, but weren't right.
From running them, I could see burn spots starting.

Wow ready for the parade, he does nice work. Good plan staying ahead of it you see a lot of people that let their prop slowly turn in to a dented up rough POS while they slowly loose speed and fuel economy ….

What a difference!

Was gonna ask about the different shaft sizes then saw the reverse pitch...

Do Pentas require a matched pair? Or can you replace just one?

Nor sure how you could ruin just one, but the unlikelyist of thinks has been known to happen.

Yes.
They have to be a matched set, but could buy 1, if the same pitch. I damaged both props.

When are you taking that boat out? Daughter #1 and I went to Navajo a couple of weekends ago.

SockPuppet,
We're not out of a good hard freeze yet, so it'll be a bit before we take her out.
I don't want to have to crawl around the motor pulling plugs.....
I'll call you when we do, and maybe meet up ?
We still haven't done lunch. Call me when you are in town, and have time.

I repaired props for 25 years. If they are developing burn spots after a repair, that was not there before, then they are probably not straight. I usually glass beaded Duoprops because they are so thin. That way you do not have to remove so much metal at each repair and they last longer. And at $1700-$2500 per set depending on the application, lasting longer is a very good thing.

The cost is why I had them reconditioned. My fix, got us back to the ramp after the strike , and out a few times afterwards.
Seeing the burn spots told me to get them fixed right, before real damage occurred.
I know those props are real pricey !

The old rule about carrying a spare would sure dent your wallet with those!

Beautiful work, and a bargain as well.

A piece of advice for anyone with duo props. Check the clearance between the props every few hours. The hubs sometimes back out and allow them to grind against each other. The thrust washers and nuts only bear against the hubs. If the hub slips, this allows the front prop to move rearward, coming into contact with the rear prop. Hubs are around $300 installed. But still much cheaper than new props.

One other thing, if you do not have collision insurance, you need to get it. They will pay on destroyed props due to collisions with logs and rocks. They will usually pay a little on prop repairs also if you have a low deductible.
