Franklin said the homeowner who shot Bowne likely won't face charges, the Advertiser said.

"We certainly won't be pursuing any charges against the man," the sheriff added to the paper. "This man was defending his home and his family. We still operate from the premise in Elmore County that a man's home is his castle. The grand jury will review the case, but we don't expect charges to be coming."

Alabama may be considered backward in some ways, but we are quite civilized when it comes to our attitude toward self defense. smile

Wow, looks like the Sheriff has his head screwed on straight. Bet his fellow Elmore County citizen remember that come election day.

Also, looks like Elmore County is NE of Montgomery on the other side of the Tallapoosa river. The sort of place ones moves to so as to avoid the blessings of duhvercity.

B&E in the night time, demanding the home owner give him his "property".....................????

Gun or no gun on the burglar, the homeowner was obviously in fear for his life inside his own home in the night time; case closed, no more need for questions, assuming the story is all correct as written. Burglar has zero rights, he gave them up when he broke in & got exactly what all burglars should get in that circumstance.
