Has anyone received one recently? Quality of info? Wait time?

My letter is dated 10/24/16. This date may not answer in terms of recent. My 99G was shipped on 8/8/1927. The problem encountered was that a receiving company name was given but historian was unable to find address or location of "My Sporting Good Co." This was the only information on the rifle. Lastly, there was some general historical information on the 99G's. I felt the letter was well done but there was not much information in the Savage records. Basically, a letter is a plus.

IMO, more often than not a factory letter is an ego-tickler more than anything else. Trouble is, in order to find out if there's solid info or not you have to fork over the bucks first. Just not worth it to me.

Somebody recently was saying they'd been waiting 2 months. No idea on quality the last year. There were a couple of worthless ones that came out about 12?/18? months ago.

I'd like to letter my K, but I'm waiting for some satisfactory results from others.

Where else to start I'm not entirely sure there is much in detail based on my experience. I don't see having a letter as being a matter of ego. My letter had a minimum of information. The date the gun was shipped steps around fights over who's list is right .Indications are that there is not a world of information in the Savage source used for my letter. Any solid evidence of provenience is a plus for any older firearm. Like I say, else where to start building a history. I think my letter cost $35.00. Big Deal.

Any solid evidence of provenience is a plus for any older firearm. That's the bottom line. To the OP, the good news is the records are safe for now at Savage. Beyond that it takes a pretty competent Savage person to interrupt to ledger info. I hope they get it worked out.

I heard the fellow that designed "spell check" passed away not too long ago. If it's true, he still haunts me from his grave.

I love/hate spell check. I'm mildly dyslexic and have trouble with words with multiple same consonants, like "assessment". I have to stop and think about the spelling and ultimately rely on spell check to guarantee accuracy. What I hate though is it trying to correct my spelling of esoteric words which I know I spelled correctly. That's why I always proof read a missive before sending it.
If only there was an app to take my sometimes disjointed maunderings and edit them into prose that would make Hemingway, Faulkner, and Steinbeck proud.
I'm reminded of the apocryphal tales of Elmer Keith's editors anguishing over his self-typed manuscripts. The man was an eloquent semi-literate!

Hello the Fire,
What info is given in the Factory Letter,
Date of Man. Caliber Barrel Length, Model 99 A,B,C, etc.
Just would like to know.
I know Winchester Letters have this info and sometimes more.
Thanks, roundtree

Depends on the era of the rifle.
Early ones will get you an accepted from factory date, ship date, who it was sold to (usually a store name), barrel length, cartridge it's chambered for, special features - and they'll guess at the model based off of those.
There's a point where they stopped recording accepted from factory dates, but you still get the rest.
Later.. There's some years from late 1937 on where ledger pages are missing, all you'll get is a ship date - nothing else.
Then later in the 50's I think you can get a ship date, model and cartridge.

Matte blue rather than mirror blue as well.. that's a weird serial number range.

Sometimes a letter has much more than you would expect. My 250 was delivered to J DeP Lynch, Corporate Secretary of Savage. While there was no mention in the letter, in my estimation it helps to authenticate the deluxe wood and checkering. There were also four work orders, none of which specified what was done, although one must have been the replacement of the barrel, as it has a later vintage one. The work orders do mention the then owner, Fred J Rath, a prominent Utica business man and politician, who later was a New York state senator. Was the letter worth it? you bet!
