Just got home from a long weekend in Yellowstone. This was the last weekend of the winter season so was really nice. Few people to be bothered, low frustrations and good time. We spent two nights in cabins at old faithful.

Great place to visit in the winter. Did you visit the National Elk Refuge in Jackson Hole Wy? There are usually 5000 to 6000 elk there and you can get real close to them on the tours that are offered.

I will see what my wife has for pics, I left my phone in my luggage. We saw elk on the way to West Yellowstone. Then the usual suspects as we went in on Friday- bison, eagles, swans, coyotes. Just stayed around old faithful and then came out Sunday. I would say worth the experience.

That's great! How much snow was there? I went up there in May, we came in from the southeast, and we could barely make it. That high mountain pass at 9500 feet was covered with snow. Fifteen miles of solid snow and ice on that road in May.

The roads, boardwalks and trails had about a foot of packed snow. The benches in front of old faithful were level with the path. Back up above, the trail to the lookout the bison post holed the trail some. Off trail it was 3 to 4 ft in places but around that area they had lots of areas that were bare ground. I was surprised at the bare ground 200 ft up the mountain to the lookout. Apparently due to thermal activity. No lines, very little waiting, good beer, although we were the last weekend so we were finishing off some of the inventory.
