I have read a lot of positive reports here on the 'fire about the 100gr 257 TTSX in 257R and 25/06 . Likewise a lot of good comments regarding the 80gr 243 TTSX.

It seems that in the quarter bores, the 80gr would be more of a good thing: higher velocity (always good with mono's) and still plenty of penetration for deer sized game.

Just looking for comments from anyone with experience with this bullet. TIA

I shot the 80's TTSX in a Tikka 25-06. I lost several deer and quit using them. I was running them 3600 fps. If you didn't hit bone they just penciled through and left a crappy blood trail. All the deer were found at a later date, what good is that? YMMV

Went to Sierra Gamekings and problem solved.

Killed over 20 deer with them and so far, no bad results. They do blow up inside the deer but do so much damage, they rarely go far, if at all.

Killed 5 deer at various ranges over the last 2 years with the 80g TTSX all recovered within 50 yards or less. Shot a deer with 80g SledgeHammer this year, about the same results with a blood trail as wide as an ATV. Both work well. Gary U

Heres a recovered 80gr from an antelope doe, shot at 550 yards, with a 257 Roberts. The shot went lengthwise, and was found just under the skin on the front right shoulder.
She was down after 2 shots, but, I sent a 3rd to make sure..

I’d not hesitate. Have used them with success on 257 bee. As with any bullet shot placement matters

That seems weird the bullets not opening up at those velocities. Maybe the petals broke off and the bullet shank pencilled through? But plenty of other good bullets to try.

I’ve never tried the 80 Barnes in my 257. I like a little heavier bullet!

I agree. Can't explain it other than I know where my shot placement was and I know the results.

When I was shooting a .257 Wby, I used to shoot the 80gr TTSX at a mild 3700 fps, because thats where I got best accuracy. It was a devastating load. Never recovered one, even from big pigs and the only thing I remember that wasn’t dead in its tracks was a big pig that I hit too far back. Definitely not a wind fighter, but for a point and shoot MPBR load, it was awesome.

My son has shot huge-bodied bull moose, big and small caribou, mountain goat, brown bear, and deer with the 80gr TTSX in a 25-06. No issues at all. Only a few were recovered. One went through the knuckle on a huge bull moose, then through the chest and halfway through the opposite side knuckle. It lost one petal. Another stopped in the same bull when shot in the neck at a long angle, up close. A third went through a bedded deer and got hung up in hair on the opposite side.

I find them a fine bullet for killing stuff.

Only a sample of one out of my 250 AI at 3165. Deer was 70 yrs, shot behind front shoulder, no bones hit, through lungs and out. Deer went 15 yrds. Mess inside, but when I skinned it, you could eat up to the holes. The exit hole looked like a small 4 bladed broad head went through.

Didn't someone report on a cull hunt in Australia and they really didn't like the 80 grain Barnes but the 100 was good? This defies logic and my experience but that was what they observed and several hundred animals were involved. I wish I could find that to see if they were shooting large numbers of scrub bulls and buffalo in which case the 80 grain bullet would not be my first choice either. If someone finds that report please post the link. These were out of a 257 Weatherby so velocity is not the issue.

We have generally used the 100-grain TSX, TTSX and E-Tip in various .25's, including the .257 Roberts, .25-06 and .257 Weatherby, but I don't see why the 80-grain wouldn't work. My wife has killed deer-sized game neatly with the 40-grain Cutting Edge Raptor from a .22-250.

I've been using SGK's on deer for over 40 years and never lost a deer with them. I don't shoot at anythng over 400 yards and usually it's inside 300. Most of my shots have been 200 or less. They're a death ray.

Even though it wasn't a .25 bore but my friend shot a buck with the 130gr tipped version from a 270 Wby at 403 lasered yds. I was watching the whole thing through the binos and he hit him with a center lung shot and man I saw the bullet impact on his side and the blood spray out the opposite side like a punctured aresol can. I wasn't expecting that. He ran about 30 yds and piled up. I was certainly impressed.

Sorry, no terminal performance on animals to date but my finicky 257 Roberts sure likes Hybrid 100 and both the 80 and 100 TTSX. Velocities in the 3100-3300 fps range from a 24".
