1938 Officers Model Target in .22 Last time I was out shooting bunnies, I realized my 1947 Winchester model 61 felt akward around my 2004 S&W 617, so I decided to buy my Winchester a friend. And since Winchester and Colt had their "Gentleman's Agreement", it' just seemed proper to pair it with a Colt. Picked this up from Liberty Tree Collectors online. The price was very good, and the revolver ended up being nicer than I expected. I wanted a revolver with a little character too it, no safe queen. This has the perfect amount of "character" for my taste. Grips have just a little more character, but that's easy to fix. I can't wait to get this into the field.

Beautiful revolver, great find, congratulations. I have a 1955 Official Police with a 6" heavy barrel in 38 Special. Those are wonderful revolvers.

Very classy! When I was 14 I got a job and saved up to buy my first handgun, a .22 revolver. S&W 63s and 617s seemed nice but sure were pricey so I decided on a Taurus 94. Upon learning I'd saved up my money dad called me into his room. There laid out on the bed was a Officers Target .22 and a Trooper .22. I was instructed to save my money and pick which one I wanted. Regarding the Taurus he said "We just can't have that in this house." The shorter barrel of the Trooper appealed to me and I made my choice. Fast forward 25 years.....dad is gone and I've inherited the Officers Target. Every few months I find myself taking these guns out and shooting up a bunch of ammo. Great guns!

1938 Officers Model Target in .22 That's the revolver that won the matches you credit to the Python.

I've only seen one of those, and it was in use by an OLD geezer at an indoor range for weekly league shoots. The fact that this was in the 1980s speaks to their durability.

Not to highjack a thread, but have a 1941 Officer's Model Target that I would sell for a very good price. Thinning the herd..

1938 Officers Model Target in .22 That's the revolver that won the matches you credit to the Python. By the time the Python came along, the heyday of the revolver was over and auto pistols ruled the Bullseye courses. Revolvers continued to be very popular with LE bullseye shooters who wanted to compete with their duty weapons. Before WWII, the Colt's Officers Match .22's & .32's or .38's paired with a New Service Target in .45 made a big dent at bullseye matches. From about 1899-1920 Colt kinda owned it. Then S&W started to become more popular in bullseye and police holsters...And then it was "on" between Colt & S&W. S&W clearly won the "revolver wars" and we're all worse off that the "revolver wars" were ever decided...But that's the way it goes. During their heyday, Colt and S&W produced some real magnificent revolvers.

Yep, like that one. Mine has the factory checkered stocks. I was lucky to grow up in the '90s, when a multitude of very fine older colt and S&W revolvers were pretty affordable. I was exposed to some neat guns that kids today don't get to see generally. I mean, in this day and age who would turn their teenage son loose with a vintage N frame for a day of hiking and blasting? My little collection won't be subjected by my kid to the stuff I used to do, that's what we have Rugers for!

Very nice, a true classic. Let us know how it shoots.
Think. It's not illegal, yet.
