Ex-Nazi living in U.S. for decades to be deported
Associated Press by ASSOCIATED PRESS Published: Thu, March 5, 2020 6:15 PM Updated: Thu, March 5, 2020 6:16 PM
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — The U.S. government said Thursday that it is deporting a 94-year-old German ex-Nazi who has been in the United States for decades.
An immigration judge ordered Friedrich Karl Berger's deportation on Feb. 28 after a two-day trial in Memphis, authorities said. It's unclear when he will be removed. Berger, who's been living in Tennessee, has 30 days to appeal the ruling.
The government says Berger was an armed guard at a concentration camp near Meppen, Germany, in 1945.
The immigration judge found that the prisoners Berger guarded were held in atrocious conditions and were exploited for forced labor. Berger also was accused of guarding prisoners during a forced evacuation to a main camp that took two weeks and left 70 prisoners dead as they traveled in inhumane conditions, according to two government news releases.
Berger acknowledged that he never requested a transfer from the concentration camp guard service and that he still gets a pension from Germany. He has been living in the U.S. since 1959.
The U.S. Department of Justice's Human Rights and Special Prosecutions unit launched an investigation into Berger in 2017. The Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Human Rights Violators and War Crimes Center also investigated.
In August 2018, American authorities deported a 95-year-old former Nazi concentration camp guard who had lived quietly in New York City for decades. The man died in Germany about five months later.

I don't know how I feel about pursuing them into their 90's. And my great grandmother was Jewish. At some point you let this go I think. I mean, the guy isn't Mengele...

still gets a pension from Germany! WTF? Exactly, like they didn't know about this guy decades ago? Especially how whacked out Germany and Israel was about still living German Nazi Soldiers living abroad. Not that I give two fuggs about a former WWII German Soldier.

has 30 days to appeal the ruling. Does he? Only one guy knows for sure. If I reach his age, I'll wonder about the next 30 minutes.

Let the guy die in peace....
I've had the chance to talk with German WW 2 veterans.. not all of them were hard core Nazis...
and now we are talking about what someone did, in his nations armed forces 70 years ago? when he was in his 20s...
if you were German and bucked the Nazi status quo.. their normal response was to just shoot you on the spot..
maybe those who weren't there, just figure he should have let himself be shot 75 plus years ago.....
and don't think in war time in WW2 that America's slate was always clean either...if your someone being self righteous over things like this...

I don’t really care. At his age, why bother! There should be no statue of limitations on crimes against humanity. The only thing that bothers me that not all are held to the same standard. For example, crimes perpetrated by Bolsheviks went unpunished.

Perhaps this man was brutal when he didn’t have to be. I’d have to review the testimony before I felt like I could pass judgment on this case.
Whatever happens in a way he won, his actions bought him 75 years living in the best country in the world. Even now we’re not talking a death sentence we’re merely talking shipping him back to Germany where he will be treated in a humane fashion. Who knows maybe he even wants to go back to Germany again.

I assume he has been a decent guest, let it ride,
Now, if he was a wetback with a current violent record, They would let him go.

I mean, seriously. The government can Try this Nazi, evidently convict him, and get him thrown out of the country (execute sentence) this quickly, but it would take them forever and cost too much to get rid of the above?
