I have a stainless Model 70 says Classic on barrel, New Haven, in a 308 synthetic, and serial # G497xx...5 digits. Anyone know anything about this....bought sometime in the 90's but can't remember exactly when. I have the manual, box, etc. and has been shot very little. Compared to other Model 70's I have handled at some gun shows it seems as well put together as them. Anyone know anything about this model?

Made in 1993. A highly sought piece, especially a short action and especially in 308. The "Classic" series was the last of the great Model 70's.

That sounds about right..I knew I bought it in 92 or 93....traded in a 308 push feed for it. Put a Redfield 3 x 9 on it that was bought in late 70's that was practically new at the time, and it has never been off of it. Thanks Winchester 70 for the info, didn't know what I had, but thought it was a pretty good piece.
