Circuit boards and software in all kinds of electronics have had manufacturer/dealer access only to extra
'hidden' capabilities and diagnostics tools for a long time.
A friend of mine who sold and serviced business machines for years told me that a particular well known and popular brand the company he worked for sold offered an upgraded version for $XXXX more. The upgrade involved simply flipping a tiny toggle switch on a certain circuit board already inside all of that model machine.

Just remember you don't own the software in your cars/trucks either. How is it any different than reprogramming your ECU with athird party software interface? I read about the"won't sell the software years ago
