I had plans, but i will ditch them. Low fares and highly anticipated, though non-essential, travel probably doesn't outweigh the risk to mankind. Plus, all kind of restrictions are now emerging and being applied to people returning from certain domestic destinations...deal breaker.

Can anyone offer their usual worthless advice...? LOL

Serious, I have not paid heed to a lot of good advice I've gotten.

Can you please point out the "risk to mankind"? A virus with a 97+% recovery rate? And symptoms in most people about as mild as a common cold?

Do you also fear the boogeyman? Monsters under your bed?

I flew for business a couple of weeks ago. My biggest concern was getting stuck in Miami in case of a quarantine situation. I will probably come through the China Clap without too much trouble, but getting stuck across the continent in a containment zone would be.......disruptive.

That's a one in thirty chance of dying from the China Clap if you get it.

Your life time chance of dying in a car crash is one in 572. Do you put your seat belt on?

Are you 35 or are you 70?

Going to work or going fishing?

The stats killer in your statement, Dutch, is that "IF you get it." Millions of people fly commercially every day. That gives me a one in a million chance - or less - of getting the Kung Flu, and then I'd have a 29 in 30 chance of surviving it.

BTW, it isn't the airplane that's in danger of contamination, it's the airPORT. They disinfect every plane after every flight, and the air is HEPA filtered. But there's nowhere near that degree of cleanliness in the airport itself.

it's not about me, it's about who i'll come in contact with, and where i've been, i have no fear of the virus, not a germaphobe

will say this, though, i got the flu shot for the first time in my life, because i had it a year ago (for the first time ever) and didn't like it

Millions of people fly commercially every day.

that has changed temporarily

Delta, one of the best carriers IMHO, weighing cost vs quality of experience, now has a policy allowing cancellation, with the fare going toward a future flight. pretty shrewd. It allows them to collect capital, without providing a service in the short run, like a down payment on a future fare

"They disinfect every plane after every flight, and the air is HEPA filtered"
Rocky: Please provide your source for this statement. After working for 3 different Part 121 Air Carriers I can assure you no airline disinfects their aircraft after every flight. Furthermore there are no HEPA filters on the B727, B737 B757 B767 and DC10. I have no knowledge of Airbus aircraft air conditioning and pressurization systems. Even if aircraft had HEPA filters installed the filters would not be changed on the manufacturers recommended schedule. Just remember "FORKLIFT JOE" of American Airlines fame and the DC10 engine debacle.

i do know the air in the cabin is switched out every 2-3 minutes, but that doesn't really eradicate much. Also, disinfecting after a flight doesn't do much for those who de-planed, or prevent re-introduction by new passengers

light cleaning is done after each flight, and a more thorough job at monthly intervals, but maybe they'll be more agressive until the problem settles down

Well, I leave for Ireland on Saturday, I'm monitoring the situation closely but Ireland is not on the European "do not travel list" so I'm hopeful things will work out ok. I have until Saturday to bail out so we will see what happens. I'm not as much worried about getting sick as I am about getting home without too much delay.
