I've removed the scope and would like to install something like a Marble's to the rifle. Can anyone tell me in which direction to drift the flat base that's already installed to remove it from the dovetail?

Usually from the left to the right looking down the barrel from the receiver.

Right clean rifle. I especially like the extended Merit adjustable iris sight insert.

Certainly falls into my " I would" category😁 Such clean well cared for rifles really turn my crank.

Now that's a clean looking rifle, very nice. Tell me more about the Merit adjustable iris insert, I've never seen one for the Lyman 57SA. Rare? Expensive? Looks like a good idea, as i have several inserts for my peep sights for different purposes.

Now that's how you spell Sweet 99 EG! Everyone should have at least one nice EG, and if you can't get that then you should have at least one nice shooter EG.

Now that's a clean looking rifle, very nice. Tell me more about the Merit adjustable iris insert, I've never seen one for the Lyman 57SA. Rare? Expensive? Looks like a good idea, as i have several inserts for my peep sights for different purposes. They're made by Merit Corporation (google them). Made in several flavors covering all shooter's needs, from hunters to target shooters. Not particularly cheap- retail between $40-80. Can be found regularly on eBay too, often for a bargain. The Lyman 57 uses the same aperture thread size as do all Lyman peep/tang sights, as well as Redfield: 7/32-40, the most common aperture thread size. Marble's tang sight aperture threads are smaller (10-32 I believe but don't quote me), and I honestly don't know if Merit makes an adjustable iris aperture for them or not. I can't speak firmly to Williams sizes because it's been 30+ years since I messed with one of them (but I sorta think Williams uses the same threads as Lyman). Even though they aren't cheap, they negate the need to buy and carry different diameter apertures to cover changing light conditions afield so in a sense they are cheaper.

Normally if your looking at top of the barrel "left to right" to remove it.

Nice looking rifle, first 99 I've seen with a carbine sling on it!

I put them on all my rifles equipped with swivels. Great cheap, easy to find, lightweight shoulder slings.
