Would appreciate a measurement. Don't want to take Melvin away from the bench lest I hold up delivery of a member's NULA. grin

Touch over 3.4 ... 3.42 (ish!) iirc. I’ll try to find my notes...

LH M20 in 7-08 rem with a stainless number 1 contour barrel cut to 21”. I think I went with a 1in9 twist but will have to check my notes. The stock has a 14.25” lop that is painted grey with black and white web. Planning to use on an August Dall hunt in AK.

What are you ordering?

I'm considering a model 28 in 300 Win Mag for a Dall/Grizz combo in a couple years.

I had a M28 in 300 win and used it for an AK Black Bear hunt and a couple other trips. Very nice rifle but felt it was to much of a good thing. Thinking a 30-06 is my limit in a NULA but the 300 win sure offers a different level of power. Good luck with your purchase and trip.

I’m with ejo; go 30-06 or smaller, use a good bullet, stalk closer.

My M28 in 270 wsm worked well on a black bear in SE Alaska, and I wouldn’t hesitate to use it on sheep or griz. Considering how close we had to spot and stalk to get him, I sure didn't need any magnum, I am no longer a fan of magnums in general. If you don’t mind the negatives, more power to you. I personally wouldn’t want more than a 7 mag or 270 wsm in a NULA. I wished I could snap my fingers and turn my model 28 magnum into a model 24 270.

Whatever you choose, they are great rifles, so pick something you will want to shoot a lot and keep forever! With the right bullet and shot placement, the choice doesn't matter so much, it just needs to turn your crank.

I have a Model 28 in 7x61 Sharpe & Hart Magnum and have yet to come close to using all the length in the magazine box. However, for some cartridges and loads, the extra length might come in handy. With a 26" #3 barrel and a 2.5x-8x Leupold, my rifle weighs 7 lbs., maybe a little less. Recoil is about like a .270 or .30-06 in a standard weight rifle.

.300 Winchester Magnum would be too much for me in such a rifle, but it may not bother others.
