Right on Jeff. I've hunted birds with him a couple of times, and he's a great guy, knows his stuff. Lot's of fun to be around.

You’re not too shabby yourself for a DDS. Actually, I have found you 1000 x more accurate in answering and assessments of health questions by members over the years then, say, others who should practice doing harm to themselves, rather than others, by way of practicing medicine.....😎

Thanks. I don't ever mind sharing. I've been happy to answer a number of PMs and talk to other members on the phone about their situation from time to time. I've made some friends that way. I always find it strange when some so called medicos around here won't enter a discussion they could help or offer to PM, or play cut and paste Google Fu. Always makes me suspicious. That's not the way the crowd of healthcare people I trained and run with act. (See Paddler. This Paddler is not an MD I assure you. Maybe there was an old John Middleton MD on that account once, but not this guy).

I also admit I scratch my head when people of no medical/healhcare training and zero clincical experience fill up on Wikipedia and pronounce themselves experts and then proclaim that the entire medical establishment is backwards, crooked, and all doctors are brainless imbeciles for not seeing and advocating whenever "brilliant" point they want to make. I promise these same people wouldn't last 1/4 of a semester in med school (or optometry or nursing)

There is a husband-wife team I go to in my area. Husband is the optometrist. Wife is the ophthalmologist. Separate offices. Both are stellar in their field and their offices are exemplary of high standards in their profession. Among their clients are the Miami Dolphins and Miami Heat. Have been going to husband's office for 25 years. As I've aged, I've needed surgery from the wife. Have more coming up with her.

Have always appreciated Doc's input here.. under any handle.. or title. smile

I'd definitely be down to meet him someday.

I think he and Rickbin had to come to an "understanding" a while back.

You can sometimes be too bold with the truth. Once in a while we don't need to tell it like it is.

He did go to optometry school, which I can assure is just as vigorous. Main difference in duties between optometrist and opthamologists is optometrists do not perform major eye surgery. Depending on which state they practice they can do lesser surgeries. Other than that, the fields pretty much fully overlap. Most opthalmology groups will incoporate optometrists on board.
I have a cousin who s is an optometrist, therefore my familiarity. Doc is a sharp guy in his field.

I don’t doubt, question or minimize his expertise in his field, but he is not a medical doctor in the conventional sense. He does not have the broad training characteristic of Allopathic and Osteopathic medical education. Vigor [sic] has nothing to do with it. Most advanced degrees earned in full residency programs are rigorous by their very nature. However, this does not mean everyone with one of those degrees should garner the same professional status as someone who’s completed allopathic or osteopathic medical school training and ABMS board certification.

The shear scope of the subject area in which Jag posts should not be accompanied by the belief that he also has a broad medical education and subsequent subject matter expertise.

Which is not relevant to the OP’s question.
