Just wondering as sometimes I get the feeling that he is. No disrespect meant to anyone and don't want to ruffle any feathers, simply a question to help me sort stuff out.

Doc is an optometrist. By what I've been able to ascertain, he knows his stuff and has my respect.
You’re not too shabby yourself for a DDS. Actually, I have found you 1000 x more accurate in answering and assessments of health questions by members over the years then, say, others who should practice doing harm to themselves, rather than others, by way of practicing medicine.....😎

He is neither an MD or a PhD.
He is an optometrist. He did not got to medical school.
He is an optometrist. He did not got to medical school.
He did go to optometry school, which I can assure is just as vigorous. Main difference in duties between optometrist and opthamologists is optometrists do not perform major eye surgery. Depending on which state they practice they can do lesser surgeries. Other than that, the fields pretty much fully overlap. Most opthalmology groups will incoporate optometrists on board. I have a cousin who s is an optometrist, therefore my familiarity. Doc is a sharp guy in his field.

Thanks. I don't ever mind sharing. I've been happy to answer a number of PMs and talk to other members on the phone about their situation from time to time. I've made some friends that way. I always find it strange when some so called medicos around here won't enter a discussion they could help or offer to PM, or play cut and paste Google Fu. Always makes me suspicious. That's not the way the crowd of healthcare people I trained and run with act. (See Paddler. This Paddler is not an MD I assure you. Maybe there was an old John Middleton MD on that account once, but not this guy).
I also admit I scratch my head when people of no medical/healhcare training and zero clincical experience fill up on Wikipedia and pronounce themselves experts and then proclaim that the entire medical establishment is backwards, crooked, and all doctors are brainless imbeciles for not seeing and advocating whenever "brilliant" point they want to make. I promise these same people wouldn't last 1/4 of a semester in med school (or optometry or nursing)
There is a husband-wife team I go to in my area. Husband is the optometrist. Wife is the ophthalmologist. Separate offices. Both are stellar in their field and their offices are exemplary of high standards in their profession. Among their clients are the Miami Dolphins and Miami Heat. Have been going to husband's office for 25 years. As I've aged, I've needed surgery from the wife. Have more coming up with her.
Have always appreciated Doc's input here.. under any handle.. or title.

I don’t doubt, question or minimize his expertise in his field, but he is not a medical doctor in the conventional sense. He does not have the broad training characteristic of Allopathic and Osteopathic medical education. Vigor [sic] has nothing to do with it. Most advanced degrees earned in full residency programs are rigorous by their very nature. However, this does not mean everyone with one of those degrees should garner the same professional status as someone who’s completed allopathic or osteopathic medical school training and ABMS board certification.

We'll just have to disagree, and that's fine.
I thank Ralph for passing on what he knows freely and altruistically.
I thank Ralph for passing on what he knows freely and altruistically.
He could improve his efforts considerably if he stayed out of some of the shadow areas and then curtly dismisses anyone who asks questions or disagrees with him about the shadow areas as being liberal scum, etc..
Maybe he missed the day "bedside manner" was discussed.
Always assumed that Jag was an SsD. ([bleep] stirrer Deluxe)
Obviously educated and articulate, but seems to be one of those who come here to vent and/or decompress. I imagine he must chuckle as he spews his conspiracy theory diatribes. Imagine if a guy met him at Menards he'd be a regular guy.

I don't know.... his theory that the corona virus was designed so they could lock us all down while they round up the Clinton's and all the rest of the "deep state actors" and execute them seems fairly plausible to me?

Same 'fire. I was listing to a St. Louis Cardinals baseball game years ago when a brawl broke out. Mike Shannan said two players on the different teams would ignore the original reason for the fight, and go straight on the field after each other.

Covid cabin fever wabi. It'll pass. Or maybe society collapses and we wind up in a compound full of survivors with a baseball bat wrapped in barbwire?

Theories are great only if they become reality. I for one would cheer right along side of you if that theory became reality, but I'm not going to hold my breath at this point in time waiting for it to happen. Again, with jag, my only complaint with him is that if you don't immediately buy his theories hook line and sinker after he pronounces them, you are suddenly a low life liberal, etc.

Actually, Jack, it wasnt my theory. I was blessed to know a guy who trusted me and was recently retired from the military Intel field of research with friends still in the business and with WH connections who clued me in to WTF was going on.
He would not reveal classified info but he pointed me in the direction of some who are in the know about stuff going on that can not be revealed in specifics just yet to protect the white hats work to completion without tainting "work or findings or evidence" ......

So tell me jag, do you support these kinds of actions in theory? Sounds like a totalitarian state using the cover of a contrived crisis and martial law to round up and execute people without due process. You OK with that, as long as it's just the right people being rounded up?

I think I'm in a position where I can tell who knows what they're talking about in the field and who doesn't. I have a pulmonologist living directly across the street from me, an ENT directly next door and an ER doc three doors down. These are my friends I talk to all the time. I run with orthopedists, neurosurgeon, internists, radiologists as well as beaucoup in the various specialists in my own field. My old roomate from MCG is a thorasic surgeon. You don't think we used most of the same textbooks for anatomy, pathology, radiology, phamacologiy etc.? When we get together, we talk about endless subjects that cross over and intertwine in our professions. They want to know how this or that is affecting my field and I want to know how things are in theirs. I have to be up to snuff on my patients current medical conditions, what they are diagnosed with, what they are taking and how the are treated as it relates to my treatment and their health. Therefore, spend a lot of time with MD's and they all want to know how their treatment affects oral conditions and treatment. In other words, we are full team of healthcare providers covering the overall picture the best we can. The more info we share, the more we know.
I don't mind that you might may think Ralph or I go out of our lane from time to time, because what matters more is our interaction with our peers and the respect we have for each other.
I suppose if you're not directing in field, it might not make sense, so I have no reason argue your viewpoint. I naturally see it different.
I thank Ralph for passing on what he knows freely and altruistically.
My comments have nothing to do with you or who your neighbors are.
Do I really need to publish a survey of threads started by Ralph—of the moon-bat positions he takes on myriad subject areas outside his, self-described narrow, professional practice.
Ask your doctor friends and neighbors if they’d endorse an optometrist who manically posts freeform cut and past conspiracy theory nonsense on an internet forum while many readers believe he’s a medical doctor in the conventional sense, like they are. Ask them if they want to share the professionalism society affords them with optometrists. There’s a reason there’s a distinction, it’s because they’re distinct.

If I lived closer, I would be Jags patient and if he could tolerate me, even his friend.
That still won’t make Jag a real doctor, gushing aside.
Why, put Kingston on ignore?
I argue with Brian all the time and fight with him like a brother over all sorts of topics... His perspective is very specific and minutiae driven. Try and go outside of that circle to defend your position and he’ll own you for it - albeit keeping the discussion or disagreement on the original topic.
Brian, isn’t a “know it all”....He’ll freely say he has no idea on a subject matter, rather than spout something to fill a void of information.

When have I attacked you, Bayou? Yet you have attacked me since about your day one.
Kingston, when have I ever attacked you without being attacked first? Or Jim.
Sorry, neither of you are going to make me turn from posting about Jesus Christ, no matter how uncomfortable those posts make you. Why dont you ask Rick Bin how to use the ignore function, as I do some on here?
As a matter of fact, Kingston, I bet you cant show where i have attacked ANY conservative, constitution loving, 2A supporting, Trump supporting member of the Fire.
I dont know if my denigration of homos bothers you or Jim or Bayou and dont care.
The only guys I denigrate on the Fire are lieberal corksuckers who push the anti conservative, anti Trump agenda.
I don't interfere in your anti Christian threads and only defend HIM on Christian threads and I dont care if you dont like that.
Btw, you initiate some really great threads, Bayou.
I was invited a long time ago to a seperate and private invitation only group years ago that some great Fire guys were starting as they had enough of this backbiting place.
I do have a clue as to why for the last 40 years it has been so easy for Dimocraps to defeat conservatives in national elections.
You all have fun building you own little clicks which you use to build yourself up in your own eyes by attacking believers or those who you dont agree with. I know it's your psychologica defense mechanism.
I will post for those who find it interesting. The bitches on here need this place because they arent allowed to bitch at home.

This is not an attack, it’s a clarification. It’s a clarification that doesn’t take anything away from you, unless your attached to people thinking you’re an MD.
Not one of my posts mentions Jesus. Further, I reserve the persecution complex for Joos.
Regarding the ignore function, I don’t generally read anything with the word Jesus in it unless it followed by a curse word, so the ignore function would be wasted in this application.
For the record, I’m been called a homo by an actual doctor, it’s not a trigger.

There is a big difference in an Optometrist and a Ophthalmologist.
Yes, I treated the eye disease while the ophthalmologists, an anterior segment surgeon and retina surgeon and pediatric surgeon did the surgery. Treated the cataract patients, corneal disease patients, diabetic retinopathy patients and vision therapy kids until they needed surgery besides treating eye and lid disease they didnt want to see and fitted contact lenses on babies and kids who had cataract surgery and ocular injuries and were too young for intraocular lens implants.
I also rotated call with another OD for years to take care of ocular injuries after hours and weekends.

Jag, your little sermon here shows that you know absolutely nothing about me, my political beliefs, my religion, or anything else about me.
One of your first direct contacts with me occurred when I simply made a comment on a thread. You sent me a PM and you were "all thumbs up" about what I said. A few days later I asked a question on a thread that maybe you began or not - I don't recall - but you came at me with both barrels for apparently asking the wrong question. Because I apparently asked a wrong question, you started in with your own personal assessment of who I was, etc. that has not changed since then. Even on threads where I do have some actual experience, such as something as simple as professional baseball, if my opinion was different from yours you pounced with name calling and accusations based on nothing but your own personal "knowledge" of me and the subject matter simply because we didn't agree.
As to our religious comments, my wife and I missed church last Sunday and will again this Sunday simply because the church that we attend is not holding open door services during our nation's current situation. So far that hasn't changed my religious beliefs one bit, so please don't try to define them for me. OK?
As I've said several times directly to you, we are probably very close politically. And I have no doubt the President Trump is doing his best to clean the swamp. I know that is one major reason that I voted for him. I have no idea nor will I try to guess why you possibly voted for him. All that we don't agree on is maybe how he's doing it. Time will tell, huh?
In the mean time, neither of us really know how it might play out. Your guess is as good as mine so don't label me a liberal, a CNN viewer, a non-Christian, a bitch as you just did above, or anything else that you feel makes you superior to me here in your eyes among the troops. Fair enough?
I thank Ralph for passing on what he knows freely and altruistically.

Thanks for all your great threads, pal.
PS. I'm sorry for having been such an asswhole to you.
Not to lieberals, however.
PS.,I'm hereby sorry for having been such an asswhole to Kingston and Jim, also.
By the way, Kingston, I'm sorry to inform you most walk on water MDs are not well trained in dealing with a lot of ocular conditions, so the other OD and I took the calls from the small town clinics and small hospital ER docs regarding what to do with a lot of ocular disease and trauma cases they received in places 75 or more miles from our city.
I also treated the post OP complications of patients operated on in our surgery center and those from patients who had to travel to Dallas or Houston or San Antonio or Austin for specialty surgeons for things like glaucoma drain implants and orbital decompression surgery and such.
Heck sometimes if I was lucky nursing homes even called me Doc when wondering what to do with ocular problems their residents had and if I paid them they would let me sign patient dx and rx orders and treatment orders for their patients i saw on the pt orders physician line.
How much do you regret not getting into medical school?
None, but the ophthalmologists I worked with wanted me to go. I had my hands full being a poor oilfield workers kid and in class or clinic 55 hours a week and holding down a part time job as it was.
This thread is trying to get off track by Wabs attempting to turn it into a Christ based bashing, brought about by individuals with angst against Christians and using the OP’s question as cover for it. Not true.
Some of us Christian members just happen to enjoy calling out the overly pious for being hypocritical azz-holes from time to time.
Nothing personal here....I would probably have you as my eye doc as well if your schedule was open to new patients.

Thanks, Beaver. I appreciate that. There arent many eye docs I trust. The suckers are pretty much a crazy bunch. God bless.

According to Jim, 80 hours a week is the new standard for excessively long hours, but maybe only if you’re not making >$12.00/hr.
The death spiral our health care system is in, I wouldn't know why anyone would go to med school. My daughter's in a pre med program and has been focused for years on becoming an MD. I tell her all the time she should be going to law school. She's 18 and idealistic though, and still believes passion for your occupation and service to humanity is more important than $$.
Most people don't realize it but good eye, ear, heart, dental and brain surgeons are not normal people. The suckers are smart enough to trick people into thinking they are normal.
You cant be a good one with brains alone. Most people could never develop the surgical skills to be good at the surgery they do. Even if a guy has that ability within him is still very possible they will never have enough cases to be able to get great.
They have supreme confidence in their knowledge and surgical ability and dont mind bullying or running over or butting heads with almost anyone. Many have the confidence and conceitedness without ever developing being good and many patients suffer from their lack of ability.
We also employed a couple of ophthalmologists who never did real surgery because they didnt have the ability to pass the surgical requirements. They did do some minor laser treatments for patients where I couldnt control their intraocular pressure even with 3 or 4 meds.
Even some of those patients didnt do well and they were my patients and I had to butt heads with at times demanding one of the great surgeons intervene to do a better job on laser treatment on the remaining half of the area thats treated with laser.
Most people don't realize it but good eye, ear, heart, dental and brain surgeons are not normal people. The suckers are smart enough to trick people into thinking they are normal.

Yep. There's good Doctors and great Doctors like any profession. I had PRK and did a lot of research before picking the surgeon. Still had some issues and to be honest, he fed me a lot of B.S. about recuperation time, after effects, etc... If he'd been more truthful I might not have done it. I had regrets for the first year, after time diluted my memories of the initial effects I'm glad I did it.
Son's a realist and a capitalist.
Amen. Zero turned medicine into a schiett eating job of licking ins company and .Gov and lowyers asses.
You cant believe having to deal on the phone with ins cos who wont pay for the best drugs a patient needs rather than some crap drug that was in style 30 years ago. It's a full time job trying to keep up with the ins, govt, and legal schiett.
Letters or phone calls to patients with eye disease who dont keep their spots? YGBSM. People cant understand there is no sense in a pharmaceuticals co to spend 2 billion developing a newer, better med if Medicare wont pay for it. Medicare approves the drugs of preferred drug companies because ......? And ins cos pay for what Medicare pays for.
Clinical testing diagnostic equipment that cost 20,000-40,000 that require a technician 15-20 min and a private pay patient pays 180 for and Medicare pays 19 for? Problem is, most patients with glaucoma or retinal disease or strokes or brain tumors are over 65 and have Medicare. Your reimbursement doesnt cover the cost of the electricity and equipment, much less the girl running the test.
Had a patient who became a pediatrician. She looked at the cost of opening a clinic, working 5.5 days and one to pay bills off what they get from patients on Medicad and she said screw it and now is a life flight nurse who can enjoy life.
The shear scope of the subject area in which Jag posts should not be accompanied by the belief that he also has a broad medical education and subsequent subject matter expertise.
It's judgmental omnipotent self-inflated crap like this that gave Yankees a bad name, But do do carry on.....
Your issue with 'doc' is obvious, Nobody else cares, but it's eating you up big time,
Eyeball aka jaguartex or vice versa helped me with a question I had about improving the sight picture with iron sights on rifles and handguns. His advice was to purchase a pair of 1:50 readers. By golly, it improved my sight picture and the best part is, he did not bill me for the consultation.

Crap. I PM glad you reminded me about that. Thanks
Just wondering as sometimes I get the feeling that he is. No disrespect meant to anyone and don't want to ruffle any feathers, simply a question to help me sort stuff out.
How much do you regret not getting into medical school?
None, but the ophthalmologists I worked with wanted me to go. I had my hands full being a poor oilfield workers kid and in class or clinic 55 hours a week and holding down a part time job as it was.
According to Jim, 80 hours a week is the new standard for excessively long hours, but maybe only if you’re not making >$12.00/hr.
55 hrs in class and clinic, working several hours a night several days a week, 30 min in Houston traffic each way, sleeping 3 or 4 half nights a week, reading and memorizing books and 5-6 pps of written notes for each of 7-8 hours in class each day, memorizing while driving to work, reading or studying while sitting on the pot taking a crap, etc studying assignments, etc.
Yeah. 20-25 hours of sleep a week were plenty for some but rough on me.
Harris's pretty astute on political assessments as well. IMO.
Quite refreshing to see a good old hell raising call-out thread, all the kung-flu stuff was getting to be a bad grind.
All we need now is a half dozen racist threads, a couple of gay bashing threads and a God vs no God one and the Fire will be right back to normal.........
I like Jag and his relentless attacks on the lib's...... and while Q is above my pay grade I hope it is true.
Thanks. I'd prolly be uncomfortable betting my life on it, but lately I have been comforted seeing Rush pick up on some of Qs revelations and Hannity using Qs terms and now seeing Devin Nunes talking about it being the time to harvest after seeing Comey feed us his back to nature schiett in his pics helps. Q also said many times over 2 years it would soon be time for the harvest. Now Nunes talks about it.
My idea is, Q has to be right or we are history. There is no comfort in Trump saving our asses a few years and draining only our govts swamp. If that were the case, the world swamp would take over as soon as hes gone and make Trump's family pay the price. Logically, would you sell your family to hell for 8 years of a reprieve for US.
Isnt Trump busting his ass for his country and us? He said he was fixing it to where this schiett weve had for govt will never happen again. We all know there are things not perfect with our present situation that have allowed this. We talk about wanting it fixed and it seems hes intent on keeping his word and doing it.
A bunch of coincidences are not a coincidence.
I'd just as soon believe in Q. If Q isnt true we still have our guns and havent lost a thing. It looks like we dont have to worry about nuclear war with N Korea to me. Saudi Arabia and Trump are buds since Alwaleed Talal is gone. Eric Schmidt stepped down and censorship is returning to Google.
Trump is not shutting down the US for 200 old dead farts. He said it would be over on DJT day, 4, 10, 20.
It was finished for Jesus's work on Good Friday. That's the day Trump said it would be over. Coincidence?
One of Trumps first rallies he pointed out the guy with a Q black tshirt. That guy was invited backstage to visit with Trump. He asked about Q. Trump said they were great guys. Coincidence?
I dont think so. Football and baseball jerseys his first year in office with the number 17. WTF is with that. Q is 17, not T. T is 45, not 17. WTF is he saying? Maybe hes saying it isnt all about him. Maybe hes saying its about some others. Maybe hes saying it's about 17. Maybe hes saying it's about Q.

I believe that jag is an optometrist, I also believe that trh owns a 2nd Chance vest.
Stands to reason jX who ain't a real Doc would also wear a vest which ain't a real vest.
tests by the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) on 2nd chance vests found that more than 50% could not stop bullets that they had been certified to stop.

Jag can take anything that your defunct self can dish out or throw at him.
Give it another try if you got anything left which could only be pitifully small.

“17” is considered a cult number and obviously seems highly significant to cultists.
The number 17 is associated with bad luck in Italy (as is the number 13 in America). Many buildings in Italy have no 17th floor (as many in America have no 13th floor).
The Roman numeral 17 in Latin means “I have lived,” meaning I am dead.
So the phantom she/he/it ghost has revelations? As if Q is Almighty God?
So the phantom ghost hoaxer Q is right? As if Q is Almighty God?
Strange cultist thinking. Once a cultist, always a cultist?

We'll just have to disagree, and that's fine.
Looks like we've been talking on 2 different wavelengths. Sorry, but I didn't recognize that sooner.
Our conversation never sync'ed up, so we'll let it go. I see your position now and understand what you are saying.

If Doc wants to tell me about macular degeneration, I can relate. I studied it. I've seen the slides, the scans, the photos. I learned the anatomy. I still know the fovea centralis is an area of tighly packed cones found in the center of the macula lutea of the retina. Nobody has really asked me it about since about 1984 or so, but If Doc wants to talk about, I have a good foundation on which to get up to speed in a hurry.
I suppose I'm trying to say is that you'd be astonished at the broad scope of Doc's education.

No, you just misunderstood the point. I apologize for not making better or more clearly. Forgive me.
Sometimes it's difficult to put a complex thought together in 5 minutes in written form and get a winner every time if you're not a professional writer. I have confessed more than once I am not Charles Dickens with keyboard, but I am willing to from time to stretch the conversation. Some are home runs and some are strike outs. Sorry if this one missed the mark. Sorry if my point escaped you. This place deserves a post from time to time that goes beyond "GFY" or Ackley Improved - (not that there is not a place for the others).
Truth is your history is one of confrontation and you just want confrontation right now.
You might see that I acknowledge Kingston and I were not in sync with our conversation, so I did what I could with that. Same here.

Looks like we've been talking on 2 different wavelengths. Sorry, but I didn't recognize that sooner.
Our conversation never sync'ed up, so we'll let it go. I see your position now and understand what you are saying.
The shear scope of the subject area in which Jag posts should not be accompanied by the belief that he also has a broad medical education and subsequent subject matter expertise.
We'll just have to disagree, and that's fine.
I think I'm in a position where I can tell who knows what they're talking about in the field and who doesn't. I have a pulmonologist living directly across the street from me, an ENT directly next door and an ER doc three doors down. These are my friends I talk to all the time. No worries.
Kingston, you seem to be okay, but obsessing over Doc seems to be a weakness of yours. I don't remember Doc ever claiming to be an MD. He's an Optometrist and in my book, that alone is a worthy achievement and profession. I have no idea how good he is at it, but he's a good old boy who has demonstrated knowledge of his field many times and I wouldn't hesitate to try him out were I in his area and had an issue with mine or my wife or kids' eyes.
You are one of the really good ones then. And I think you are so don't take that wrong.
All fall short of the glory of God. I never claimed to be perfect. I'm happy to see you dont forgive a human mistake. Maybe He will remember you're mistakes and lack of forgiveness.
Gates stepped down from the board he was a director on. Tell me how much God will be upset it was from whatever or Apple?
I wouldn't take much stock in a man that takes pleasure in belittling victims of what could've been a mass murder if it weren't for a well disciplined and well trained deacon.
Jag's a good guy whether or not we agree on everything.

Yup. Jag's a good man. There are many here I think highly of, yet I do not agree with them on many questions and issues...and I disagree with Jag on quite a few things, but that's not how I judge a man's character. His heart is in it and on our side.
This exercise in character assassination is bullshit.
And Poboy was being sarcastic. He and I have both shared a REAL Campfire with Doc. He’s as good a fellow as you’d find anywhere. And a lot better than more than a few. Also one of the smartest members I’ve met along with Doc Rocket.
Is the topic of the original post, as stated in the title of the thread, finished now?
Have we reached a consensus? Have either the naysayers or acolytes conceded yet?
Oh wait, this is the Hunter's Campfire. Good thing I stocked up on popcorn the other day. Had to buy Jolly Time at nearly $0.30 a bag more than the store brand I really like because I usually only get 3-6 old maids per popper full. The Jolly Time will be held in reserve while I use up the 1.5 bags of store brand remaining.
And just for good measure, I DON'T want to hear any guff about how much better Orville's popcorn is. NONE, do you hear me.

Just wondering as sometimes I get the feeling that he is. No disrespect meant to anyone and don't want to ruffle any feathers, simply a question to help me sort stuff out.

You should really ask the OP.
How do you pop this corn?
Well, I don't use baby oil!
I will take some heat by the "open flame with a tested temperature of 750F in a copper clad stainless steel pot made by Japanese tinkers using only Peruvian "Inca Gold" kernels crowd" for being honest, but I use a (oh no, the horror)..........................
Presto Power Pop Microwave corn popper.
1/4 cup kernels measured with the "purple" measuring cup, using the "popcorn" setting on our nearly 20 year old microwave oven, and usually have to stop the oven with anywhere from 0-15 seconds when it's ready.
And over the years since I found this wonderful invention, I have found I prefer El Cheapo popcorn over the expensive type. They pop better and taste better in my expert opinion.
Between the microwaves and the plastic popper I've probably shortened my lifespan by a good 30 minutes.
Has the question you posed originally been answered to your satisfaction?
If this was a phone menu I'd say "press one for yes" "press two for no".....................................after I asked you to "press one for English................"
You can answer in a post on your thread should you choose to.
Your answer will in NO WAY determine if this thread will continue. You gave it life, but you can not summarily kill it.

I had a feeling. I just found one of those in the back of my cupboard. It was probably forgotten about 15 years ago.
