Doc is an optometrist. By what I've been able to ascertain, he knows his stuff and has my respect.

Quite refreshing to see a good old hell raising call-out thread, all the kung-flu stuff was getting to be a bad grind.
All we need now is a half dozen racist threads, a couple of gay bashing threads and a God vs no God one and the Fire will be right back to normal.........
carry on.......
This thread’s threatened having the potential to be all things to all people.

I think I'm in a position where I can tell who knows what they're talking about in the field and who doesn't. I have a pulmonologist living directly across the street from me, an ENT directly next door and an ER doc three doors down. These are my friends I talk to all the time. I run with orthopedists, neurosurgeon, internists, radiologists as well as beaucoup in the various specialists in my own field. My old roommate from MCG is a thoracic surgeon. You don't think we used most of the same textbooks for anatomy, pathology, radiology, pharmacology etc.? When we get together, we talk about endless subjects that cross over and intertwine in our professions. They want to know how this or that is affecting my field and I want to know how things are in theirs. I have to be up to snuff on my patients current medical conditions, what they are diagnosed with, what they are taking and how the are treated as it relates to my treatment and their health. Therefore, spend a lot of time with MD's and they all want to know how their treatment affects oral conditions and treatment. In other words, we are full team of healthcare providers covering the overall picture the best we can. The more info we share, the more we know. they learn from me and I learn form them. We all have a very solid and similar educational foundation that is common to us all that allows us to share info at a doctorate level.
If Doc wants to tell me about macular degeneration, I can relate. I studied it. I've seen the slides, the scans, the photos. I learned the anatomy. I still know the fovea centralis is an area of tighly packed cones found in the center of the macula lutea of the retina. Nobody has really asked me it about since about 1984 or so, but If Doc wants to talk about, I have a good foundation on which to get up to speed in a hurry.
I suppose I'm trying to say is that you'd be astonished at the broad scope of Doc's education.
I don't mind that you might may think Ralph or I go out of our lane from time to time, because what matters more is our interaction with our peers and the respect we have for each other.
I suppose if you're not directing in field, it might not make sense, so I have no reason argue your viewpoint. I naturally see it different.
I thank Ralph for passing on what he knows freely and altruistically.
This has got to be the most hysterical post I’ve read in sometime.

No, you just misunderstood the point. I apologize for not making better or more clearly. Forgive me.
Sometimes it's difficult to put a complex thought together in 5 minutes in written form and get a winner every time if you're not a professional writer. I have confessed more than once I am not Charles Dickens with keyboard, but I am willing to from time to stretch the conversation. Some are home runs and some are strike outs. Sorry if this one missed the mark. Sorry if my point escaped you. This place deserves a post from time to time that goes beyond "GFY" or Ackley Improved - (not that there is not a place for the others).
Truth is your history is one of confrontation and you just want confrontation right now.
You might see that I acknowledge Kingston and I were not in sync with our conversation, so I did what I could with that. Same here.

Such a useless field....who cares about their eyesight? It’s a superfluous endeavor and a shallow pursuit. At least boob doctors are doing the Lord’s work with results you can see (pun intended) 😂
Of course I’m being 100% sarcastic. DocJaguar has my respect for his profession and his contributions here. 👍👍

My comments have nothing to do with you or who your neighbors are.
Do I really need to publish a survey of threads started by Ralph—of the moon-bat positions he takes on myriad subject areas outside his, self-described narrow, professional practice.
Ask your doctor friends and neighbors if they’d endorse an optometrist who manically posts freeform cut and past conspiracy theory nonsense on an internet forum while many readers believe he’s a medical doctor in the conventional sense, like they are. Ask them if they want to share the professionalism society affords them with optometrists. There’s a reason there’s a distinction, it’s because they’re distinct.
Looks like we've been talking on 2 different wavelengths. Sorry, but I didn't recognize that sooner.
Our conversation never sync'ed up, so we'll let it go. I see your position now and understand what you are saying.
No worries.

Kingston, you seem to be okay, but obsessing over Doc seems to be a weakness of yours. I don't remember Doc ever claiming to be an MD. He's an Optometrist and in my book, that alone is a worthy achievement and profession. I have no idea how good he is at it, but he's a good old boy who has demonstrated knowledge of his field many times and I wouldn't hesitate to try him out were I in his area and had an issue with mine or my wife or kids' eyes.
There is a big difference in an Optometrist and a Ophthalmologist.
Yes, I treated the eye disease while the ophthalmologists, an anterior segment surgeon and retina surgeon and pediatric surgeon did the surgery. Treated the cataract patients, corneal disease patients, diabetic retinopathy patients and vision therapy kids until they needed surgery besides treating eye and lid disease they didnt want to see and fitted contact lenses on babies and kids who had cataract surgery and ocular injuries and were too young for intraocular lens implants.
I also rotated call with another OD for years to take care of ocular injuries after hours and weekends.
You are one of the really good ones then. And I think you are so don't take that wrong.
