I've always likes those old Weatherby rifles, I'd leave her as is and just shoot it!

I had one of those scopes that I bought in 1969. The rifle may be fine but that scope is a piece of junk. The leupolds of that era were way better.

When you leave guns outside to spend the night they usually end up looking like that. Junk the scope and put a medium priced Vortex scope on that rig and it'll be ready to ride.

A can of Brownell’s Aluma-Hyde II in Semi-Gloss Black would give the most durable DIY* cheap finish that would compliment the wood stock.
* in the sense of from a can and air dry

The .240 WM is a nice cartridge to use, not unlike a .25/06 in the field. My old one was Japanese but also a 9 lug version. I used to shoot sentry feral goats off cliffs at 500 yards with it. Lots of fun.

303 Savage: I have been a LONG time owner/user/Hunter of and with the 240 Weatherby - it is an EXCELLENT medium game long range Rifle and I have also taken some LONG distance Coyotes with mine as well. I hope in the long run you will be as happy with your 240 Weatherby as I have been with mine. I am so glad the accuracy of your Rifle apparently was not effected by the poor storage situation. And the scope - in the past I have owned and used three of the Weatherby scopes - I do not know who "made" these scopes for Weatherby but they worked well enough for me. Enjoy your new Rifle. Good for you. I have a custom 240 wby on a R 700 action. It’s in my opinion a very over looked cartridge.

Goooood truck piece. But being a wby if it were mine think I might send that one for nitride coating considering its use. Going to try the 240 myself this coming year, all ready just got to sight it in.

Great deal. I regret not buying a L-Hand Mk. V when I found one in a pawn shop. It seemed too heavy for the caliber but for stand hunting the weight is a plus and for longer shots as well.
I would be tempted to try Brownells Oxpho-Blue on it just for looks and a little more protection. It won't come out like a pro blueing job but I have seen some turn out pretty good.

A Mark V Deluxe 240 Wby Mag as a truck gun??!! No offense 303, but you're a pimp. Congrats on a fantastic deal and weapon. You'll love the 240. It's a wicked little unit and will most assuredly not disappoint. I'm running 95 NBT's at 3450 and it just hammers hogs, yotes and deer... all with minimal recoil. My youngest son just shot his first deer last month with my 240. Shot was 211 yds off a shooting stick, sitting in a pop up ground blind. Deer buckled at the shot and never moved.

If intended as a truck gun, leave as is. Previous owner, however, should be shot.

I bought it thinking I could sell the brass for 80-100, ship the scope off on eBay for 80-100, sell the stock for 100, sell the bottom metal and follower for 40-50, sell the dies for 35 bucks, and whatever I got out of the action would be a profit. But it shoots, so for $400, I have 50 rounds loaded, and a pretty cool rifle that I can drag through the brush and not give a shirt, bring home after hunt, oil, repeat.
guns to me are like legal crack

I would refinish the stock your self, sell the scope? And refinish the action with cerakote by a professional in satin finish socom blue. Will look close to blue and be tough as hell. Costs about 100 bucks if u get a good deal on a job
Nice pick up. Spence
