We spoke last week as it happens. In fact, I was the Editor of his hunting magazine and wrote the humor column in it for the 4/5 years it was in publication (Extreme Elk) a couple of years back. Jud, I'll have to look it up when I get home, but I BELIEVE it was 13 years old. It way tagged as a calf 30 miles from where I found it the night before hunting season. We killed it 5 minutes into opening day. Pretty crazy (and lucky) hunt. Dave If you're not burning through batteries in your headlamp,...you're doing it wrong.

I used to be able to saddle up in my mom's yard in the Bitterroot, ride over the divide and down to the river and then go about anywhere I wanted to for days. Whitecap Creek, Goat Haven Peaks, all the Moose Creek drainages, whatever. Now days I have to trailer them a good 2 miles to a trailhead...
