Thought I would provide a link to the remote Stanley Lake area of Idaho where yesterdays magnitude 6.5 earthquake hit. I have been to this area many times in the past and it is spectacular in person. The link I am providing shows a few pictures of Stanley lake and McGown peak across the way. If you are ever in central Idaho be sure to stop by both Stanley Lake and Stanley (the town). Link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stanley_LakeAgain I hope no one was hurt in this large quake. Hold into the wind VarmintGuy

Google Sawtooth Wilderness Area. The mountains are spectacular. Stanley Lake is just outside it and McGowen Peak is inside of it. A couple photos stolen from the web:

Apparently there's some jackwagon in Europe, threatening to invade Poland or something. Someone should do something about this Hitler guy....

I think VG has also never heard of George Thorogood.

Rock Chuck: Thanks for posting the wonderful pictures from the area of that quake! I need to spend more time over that'away. The scenery from that part of the country makes it well worth the drive. Thanks again. Hold into the wind VarmintGuy

Been in that country many times. Rafting and bear hunting. Wonder if any slides made it to the river. This rapid is called "Earthquake Rock" after a slide that happened in the Chalis quake.

Spent a month there in 82 hiking and climbing and fishing . It was the end of a three month bicycle trip. Probably my favorite place to hike!

Hold into the wind VarmintGuy Remote means different things to different people, Stanley lake can be driven to on pavement, and Stanley itself can be reached by paved highways from three different directions so neither are what can be called remote unless being over a hundred miles from the nearest Walmart is the criteria for remote. The area behind the lake is part of the Sawtooth wilderness area but Stanley lake itself is by no means remote. Here is link to the actual epicenter of the quake - it is north of Cape Horn and east of Bear Valley, lots of rugged country back in there. I thought it was ironic that the epicenter was located on Shake Creek. The type of country the quake epicenter was located in are not Sawtooth type mountains rather they are just typical steep western mountains with the jagged type peaks that make up the Sawtooths. https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/us70008jr5/mapA link to a picture of the country in the vicinity of the epicenter https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sheep_Mountain_(Idaho) drover

Elk Mountain Loop is a fun Mtn. Bike loop if you ride bikes. You start right at the Stanley Lake Trailhead work your way up a road on the North side of the lake for a few miles then hit a single track that leads to a giant meadow (Elk Meadows) and follow that down several miles before working back to the road. Fun loop. You do need to be in decent shape. Will be interesting to see if anything changed next time I get to ride it.

My 1st wolf hunt was based in Stanley for 2 weeks. Spectacular area w/ lots of bears and in Oct. very few people. The country between Stanley and Challis is driveable on a FS 2 track and gives access to some wild country. We have been back many times.

I was sleeping, didn't feel it here. But friends said it felt like the wind was shaking their truck who were out and about.
Beautiful country there.
Might be the only good thing about our current situation is the non-residents are fewer here, I have to assume it's the same over there. Fuggin snowbirds and warm weather ....... can stay in their winter quarters and count their TP rolls. If in Tejas, that'd be uno, dos, tres, .....
