I have not tried these but there are numerous reviews on the internet. Most favorable but some calling them a gimmick, but some people will always call foul on anything and maybe more so if they haven't even tried them. Not unlike the Kampfar.

I have only used them in 9mm, on small game and various test media (including meat, fwiw). The Penetrator design didn't impress me as much (acted a lot like a hard cast flat nose), but the Defender was good. IMO it's a solid design with a lot of merits. If I was hunting with a 45/70 I'd try the Defender on deer, for sure.

I have a buddy that is a police officer and they supply all their duty guns with the Lehigh extreme defense bullets in ammo loaded by black hills ammo. He had to shoot a deer caught in a fence with his Glock 19 and the damage was impressive for a 9mm. I think a 45-70 would be way more impressive. I would go with the defense instead of the penetrator unless you are looking to shoot grizzly bears or cape buffalo. the defense bullet is better at causing damage in soft tissue whereas the penetrator is meant to do just that.
