One week ago there were about 1,000 American deaths due to Covid-19
As of April 3rd (today) there are over 6,100 American dealths due to Covid-19.
Want to guess what this math shows in another month? In three more months? In 2020?

It's going to be many months and might be as long as 18-24+ months before the world can even begin to resume a 'new' normal. We have no vaccine. Experts say that Vaccine development will take another 18+months.

Explain to all those 6,100 American families affected by these deaths that it's a minuscule problem.

You are missing the point: Math tells us that the CDC death forecast is definitely going to be higher than your 80,000 dead Americans and before the end of 2020. It could also be far worse if people and states don't start practicing social distancing and enforcing more strict travel and 'shelter in place' rules.

According to the CDC, last year the US had 80,000 deaths related to the annual flu, an uptick from the typical 20K to 40K. I don't know the actual reason for the increase, other than the annual flu shot might not have been as effective.

That being said, the estimate for Covid-19 are 100K to 200K US deaths and that's after taking extraordinary measures. Assuming you don't consider 43% of the population getting an annual flu shot as extraordinary.

This is something to take seriously.
