WHY would a 30-06 need to be ported like that. He could of at least kept the holes in a straight line!

A local pawn shop has a No. 1b in 30-06 with a disgusting rollover cheekpiece made out of laminate cut into and affixed to the original stock and a brake permanently attached to the barrel. It is for sale for $680. I thought about trying to rescue it before I bought a different one.

That Ruger could make a good project gun. Bubba has not jobbed the butt stock. How about cutting the barrel(if legal) back far enough to get rid of the "porting". Fit a new forend tip. Also remove the Williams Sight. Use plug screws temporarily. There are ways to fill those screw holes. That gun would have to be seriously cheaper. I wonder what other horror stories came from that Bubba Custom Shop.

Anyone who does something like that to a #1 should be gut shot and pi$$ed on.

Local pawn shop has a #1 that someone put on a very fat 223 barrel. Not sure what the original chambering was, but that barrel is supper fat. The barrel channel in the forearm was opened up by someone that knew what he was doing as the fit between metal and wood is actually good. They want 1200, but upon questioning, they would take 800. I have been eyeballing it, but adding in the cost of a new barrel and forearm, it would have to be quite a bit below 800. I am wondering what Ruger would charge to put it back to original order.
