A long, but very informative history lesson on the H1 N1 virus! Completely different than what I thought I knew about the “swine flu”! memtb

When this is over, we will all have PhD level knowledge of virology, epidemiology, and computer modeling.

Very interesting article

From it: "This is the ecology that, in the cases of pigs and chickens, is breeding influenza. It is an ecology that promotes viral evolution. And if we don't do something about it, this ecology will one day spawn a severe pandemic that will dwarf that of 1918."

We've all seen photos of chicken and pig farms (and cattle feed lots) with many animals in close proximity. Probably a breeding ground for any virus that comes along.

Well, just using what I learned in 10'th grade Biology: The author of the linked article needs to do back to High School.

First he totally ignores the fact that the Spanish flu of 1918 was H1N1. He falsely claims the origins of that virus at 2005.

Secondly, he claims that if a cell is infected with two strains of virus simultaneously, that those strains can exchange chromosomes. That sounds intriguing, if a virus had any chromosomes to start with. Hint: they do not!

Assuming the rest of the article was as full of disinformation as the parts mentioned, I did not consider it worth reading further.
