I am kinda fickle when it comes to rifles but I think this one may be the perfect rifle, at least for me, to hunt North America and plains game in Africa. My perfect rifle is a Steyr-Mannlicher Model M Professional in .30-06 with iron sights and quick detachable mounts. I just bought a Kahles Helia S 6x42 that will replace the Redfield that came on it. The Harris bipod has to go too. So let me see what you consider your “perfect all around gun” if you have one (or two or twelve)

Looks pretty “all around” to me and in the ultimate all around cartridge for sure!

I recently got a New Haven made Winchester Model 70 Classic FW in 7-08 Rem which I really love. For North America it seems like a lovely all arounder. Right now it’s topped with a Nikon Monarch 2.5-10x42mm w/ ballistic reticle in TLWs but I’ve got a Leupold FX3 & dual dovetails that’ll be a bit lighter.

Love the idea of a Helia tho that’s awesome.

Love the Featherweight! I think Kahles is probably the only brand I haven’t tried out and this one popped up in the classifieds with my favorite reticle power. I am going to guess I will be close to 9 lbs with the heavier Kahles scope

Why does the Harris Bipod "have to go."?
I hunt places where a bipod just like that is absolutely indispensable, and other places where it is mostly in the way. I mount it for the former, and remove it for the latter, but I'd never be without it in my kit. That's just my dos centavos, and I am genuinely interested in why you're just thinking of ditching it, period.

Where I hunt currently it is not needed. I am either still hunting in thick woods and swamps or sitting in a blind. It would be unnecessary weight for me. I might hang onto it if I venture out west where it might come in handy.

My "all arounder" is my 1952 FN Mauser 98 with factory 24" barrel in 7X57. I shoot 160 grain Partitions with a healthy dose of H4350.

This is about the most "all around" gun that I own.

M700 23" JC bbl in 280 (not AI) in a Brown Precision topped with a 3.5-10 BC.

Tagged this little buddy with it on the first day I ever carried it afield.

Those are nice rifles! Other companies should pay attention to what Ruger puts out sometimes.

I prefer that my "favorite Rifles" be made in the United States of America!

My "favorite rifles" are Shiloh Sharps built lock, stock and barrel in Montana but they are a little specific in their applications but I could hunt the world with them and be perfectly happy. Other than being range limited (300 yds or less) my Winchester 71 could also work.

My all around rifle is a Beretta Mato in 30-06, I have both a walnut stock and a fiberglass stock for it. The scope is a Burris Signature Select 3-10x40.

Where's the like button. I've always loved these ^ things, or think I do, can't remember handling one. 30-06 is still very, very hard to beat as well.

My all around for in my are has been a 25-06 for many years. Presently it's a SS 700 in a Mcswirly with a 4.5-14 B&C. Not legal for Elk here, but I've tired of donating every year trying to get drawn anyway.

Mine’s a SS M77 in .308 wearing a 3-9 VX2 with the long range duplex. Nothing fancy, but it’s pretty easy to work with.
