Like a lot of people, I'm really looking forward to getting out and doing some trout fishing this year. I live within an hour plus drive of a lot of it. So, what's available this year ?
The local camp grounds are closed. But, at least in my area, public land is still open for hiking, etc.
I just accessed the fish planting schedule for the state. Cal. Dept. of Fish & Wildlife is not releasing that information at present. But they are planning to plant fish when conditions are suitable. Streams have to have the right conditions of flow, water temperature, etc. for them to plant. If the water temps get too warm, and/or the stream flow is too slow, the water not clear enough, they stop planting. Lakes have to reach 42 (?) degrees in the afternoon before they will plant and meet other critera as well.
So, we are going to have some places to go fishing. Lakes are open for the most part if they are ice free. Streams will open at the end of the month, as usual. E

I hate to burst the bubble, but CDFW commission is currently debating whether or not to close some or all fishing indefinitely.

There'll be lawsuits for sure, as fishing is constitutionally guaranteed in CA.

But I'm only partially hopeful.

The CA constitution means jack [bleep] in that socialist republic. I lived there from 1982-2015. The fine folks in Sacramento do whatever they want. The fish and wildlife department is a HUGE joke, run by tree huggers.

Yeah, I saw that too, Scott. I suspect when the hysteria over Covid-19 slows down, we will allowed to do a lot of things. We'll see. What makes me think they will not close the seasons all together is that they are still allowing people to go out and hike or just walk. But, we'll see. E
