Why do you need a small diesel truck ?

I have a 3/4 ton diesel. Look at the tow ratings and payload ratings of the gas and diesel. Look at the stated mileage of each. Look at the price differential of diesel vs gas. Conduct a detailed analysis. Then, go get the gasser because all the epa mandates dpf/def/egr bs has ruined diesels as a daily driver. Heck, I tow lots and am thinking of going back to a 3/4 ton gasser.

I chatted up a couple older guys passing through here at a gas station with a diesel Canyon, same thing. Turns out they both had one they'd been buddies for years one was from Idaho and the other Creston BC. They both loved them. I asked him about gas mileage and he said he just calc'd it after topping up and they made 32 miles/Us gallon coming down from Creston. That's where they shine. Plus they can actually pack and pull a bit..

My uncle has one and has had it since they first came out. He likes it and he's really hard on vehicles.
I've heard the new 3.0 6 cylinder duramax in the 1/2 ton trucks get better mileage than the 4 cylinder diesel in the Colorado.

I have driven one for about 50,000 miles with no issues but not sure I can justify the cost verses gas at this point. The government can wreck anything if you give them a chance and they've choked the life out of diesels since 2011 with all the emission requirements. I've owned at least one Duramax or another since 2001 when fuel was about $1.50 per gallon. Now we are still around $3.00 with crude through the floor and my Colorado only gets around 20 per gallon. Admittedly the truck has a full cap, a winch, oversize tires and is always loaded with tools in the bed but I would have expected better milage and I don't have a heavy foot....Heck, I get 12/13 towing with my 2011 3500 dually Duramax and it's way heavier.

Are ANY diesels worth it nowadays with all the EPA chokes on them? If the gassers would just tow at highway speeds without revving like hell. That gets old really quick.

I have a 2018 ZR2 with the baby max. Its a great truck. Love the fuel mileage Sensor failure 1 hour after purchasing and now a recall/update to the ECM. None of which are/were an inconvenience. Really like the ride comfort and handling. With the selectable locking diffs you can have 9 different transfer case selections. AWD mode is great. I modified my rock sliders and made steps out of them. Added steps into the sides of the rear bumper too. Does about 7000km per 10L jug of def fluid.

While I won't own a GM product, I've been watching the Edmunds long term test of the Colorado diesel they put in the fleet. I'm impressed. Not enough to buy one, but it looks like Chevy delivered on its promises. https://www.edmunds.com/chevrolet/colorado/2017/long-term-road-test/wrap-up.html

My prejudice against anything GM/Diesel was formed in the late 1970s to early 1980s. It was a negative prejudice, and remains to this day.

No... Could NEVER justify a diesel unless I was towing in the mountains for a living EVERY DAY...

Love my 99 7.3 with ZERO emissions controls. I would not consider the diesels of today.
