The newest catchphrase coming out of the fear mongering politicians and MSM seems to be saying we all have to accept the "new normal" life. These are nothing but code words for the continued and expanded government intrusion into private lives and suspension of rights. Funny thing is that many of the people we all see and hear who have bought into the fear mongering and blindly support these restrictions etc, will be the ones crying the loudest when months from now after the Covid 19 has settled down, they cant go to their favorite concert, vacation, have a large party for their child or their employer has been unable to bounce back and closed etc etc.

I cringe every time I hear it. I think people use the phrase in an attempt to appear as though they have some special insight that us mere mortals lack, and I find that offensive.

Except that nobody with more than three brain cells thinks of this as anything but the Current Abnormal.
Things won't be quite the same after this, but mostly because of failed businesses and re-employment changes. THAT will be the new normal. Not this temporary aberration.

It'll be a new world, that's for sure. Depending on the outcome of the Presidential election. If the DemocRATS cheat their way to victory we are totally screwed. 2nd Amendment on life support or gone.

Things will change. Today, social distancing (including closing establishments and gathering places) is required to slow the spread of the virus. Once this requirement is over (hopefully in 1-2 months), there will be social adjustments. People will probably be reluctant to shake hands or stand in closely packed lines, or fly in densely packed airplanes or, take cruises, or ..... Once a vaccine is widely available, the economy can fully open but, new businesses will have to be established to replace those that have failed and, people will need to find new jobs. This will take time. I believe it will take 4-5 years for the economy to fully recover and for people to feel comfortable in crowded situations.

They say that because when everything reopens they’re going to cry wolf again in an attempt to shut everything down a second time.
They’re planting the seeds now.
Write your locals. Tell them they have lost your vote.

Lock down, phone tracking, rights infringement, prohibited congregations, enforced business closure:
All very bad things.

It’s conditioning. Setting expectations for what is to come to minimize backlash. ^Exactly this. People in this country better wake the [bleep] up before it’s too late. It may already be. There’s way more going on here than some virus with a mortality rate of half a percent or whatever they are saying it is today. But everybody has their face buried in a phone screen watching cat videos. I guess unless they take that away, it doesn’t really matter to most.

What it’s also done is show bad state actors like Russia, China, North Korea, Iran etc. how vulnerable the US is to biological warfare. There’s no doubt they’re studying every aspect of our reaction to this and taking notes on how they can destroy the US economy if they need to.
Russia and the US have the only surviving cultures of the smallpox virus. We declared it eradicated years ago and most people under about 50 haven’t been vaccinated against it. Smallpox has a 35% mortality rate vs. less than 2% for COVID-19. Imagine what would happen if that was weaponized and released into the US population.

This morning was my first time "out of the house" since my surgery on 02 March 2020. Shook hands three times this morning. Did not not grab a hand sanitizer either time.
Everyone I spoke to in my little slice of Fly Over country is ready to get back to the Old Norm... Time to get over it and move on...
