I have an old gloss Vari-x III 2.5-8 that I want to keep on a Lenard Brownell custom rifle because it is a period correct piece. But the adjustments were mushy and I could barely rotate the ocular lens to focus it, so I sent it in.

It comes back with a work order that says:
Replaced objective assembly
Replaced erector system
Replaced erector spring
Replaced eyepiece assembly
Replaced elevation adjustment
Replaced windage adjustment

No charge.

This is just supposed to be a simple "sight in and shoot" scope, and I am happy to accept its limitations. I have tactical scopes when I want to twist turrets. It was just nice to see that their warranty still counts for something.

Leupolds have always worked well for me. Glad you had good luck with their warranty.

I have about 30 of them. I have no issues with them. They help me kill the animals I shoot at. They are great for the money, like a Chevrolet. It ain’t a Bentley, but I’ve run Chevys 300,000 miles. If I was a long range guy I’d have a Nightforce, but I have a bunch of guns. I can’t afford a bunch of Nightforce scopes.

I'm still a Leupold fan. I have owned many of them over the years. They work well for what I use them for. Set and forget. Most of my shots are within 200yds. I have killed maybe half a dozen whitetails past 200 yds, but where I hunt long shots are rare. IMO they are good hunting scopes for the money. I have not had any issues with tracking or zero. If I needed a Long range scope to dial in dope and do a lot of turret twisting, I would buy a Nightforce or a Kahles. But those scopes are in a different class IMO.

Never had problem with the warranty, my problem was sending them back all the time to get them to track and return to zero

I'm surprised they didn't replace it with a new one. Probably would not have been what you wanted but last time I sent them one that was beat up, they sent me a brand new one and of course at no charge.

I am continually astounded at how quickly people make up their minds on little evidence or none at all.

They received it on 26 February, so it took about 6 weeks.

Sounds like besides the tube he did get a new one, but I know what you mean.

I've sent in a couple to have them go through and have never had a problem with them. I did send in a 16x one a couple years ago and they couldn't service it so they emailed me and offered me a couple different choices to replace it with. I'll gladly take a Leupold over the majority of the Chinese scopes out there.

I might have been bummed if they replaced it entirely because I wanted the gloss finish to match a rifle. I am not sure they make any gloss finished scopes any more.

But given everything they replaced, it seems like it is essentially a new scope.

I just got back a new VX-R 3-9 that grew whiskers on the reticle waiting in it's factory box for the rifle to return from the 'Smith, work order said 'reticle cleaned' crazy it's on a 98 Mauser in 358 Norma, so no turret twisting on this one, +3 inches at 100 yards and 250gr Partitions at 2810 fps will allow easy 400 yard hunting with holdover, if/when necessary.
