Ok y’all what is the average in school days your teachers are contracted for? Here the average pay is 44,000 per school year contract of 178 days classroom instruction, 188 days total work time. 44K for 6 mos. work. Wrong. Most people work 5 days a week so that's 9 months. Seeing as you have to have at least a bachelor's degree and have to keep getting CEC's, that's not a lot. How would you like to be stuck in a room with 30+ kids for several hours a day and get them to behave and try to teach kids of all intellect levels?

I hear frequently about kids getting indoctrinated at school. No doubt lib, unionized teachers and progressive curriculums have that intention and bad parents allow it.
I was taught by my parents to questions authority. Every night I was interrogated about my school work and the subject matter was discussed and illuminated. My wife and I did the same w/ our 4 kids. Critical and creative thinking begins at home and kids have the values that they are taught. Leaving your kid's future up to others is not good parenting.
As a kid I hated school but did learn to appreciate the value of knowledge.

My teaching contract is for 260 days a year. Perhaps you don't understand that different states and different types of teaching have different contracts? I teach NJROTC at a high school in Amarillo TX and we are on a 12 month contract because of summer leadership camps, orientation visits, mandatory training with the USN etc... 5 days a week for 52 weeks equals 260 days. So I work every bit as many days as you do. What was your point again?

Do you work seven days a week? 188/5=38 weeks = 9 months. You sound like one of those "everyone else makes too much money and I don't make enough" crybabies. Do you have a college degree? $41-67K isn't a lot for someone with a 4 year degree.

This was my initial reaction to the OP as well. At least in my locale, kids are doing some form of work from home. Mostly over the internet, paper for the few who don’t have access to WiFi. Is it as “rigorous” or time consuming as normal classroom teaching? No, but the schools are trying to make the most of a bad situation. Find something else to complain about..

It is kind of funny just how much time a kid spends in school..........and how much time they spend actually learning.
You can pretty well cover all the subjects in about 2 to 3 hours.
This is with out lunch break and three recesses. Oh, and "brain breaks".
Lotta day care happening there.....

Kids spend too much time in the classroom anyway. The administrators were explaining to teachers a couple weeks ago that the actual instruction time for kids is supposed to be pretty low. I can't recall but less than a couple hours per day and age dependent. Parents were getting pissed that they actually had to parent and couldn't have their kids on the computer all day doing school work. It's sad how many view public schools as free day care and don't know what to do when they have to raise their own kids themselves. Well said. If most of our kids’ learning is coming from a state run school, then we’re in for some green-haired, blue-voting yellow bellies.
I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty or give me death!

The taxpayers of Ohio should get a refund from the OP because he's not doing his job. Part of the job of a corrections officer is to rehabilitate prisoners. With the recidivism rate of felons, he's obviously not doing his job...(only somewhat sarcastic).

Had too many so called educated do nuffins with a sheepskin. Retired from a very well paying job, above and beyond your stats. But man my boss would have just loved it if I said “ Hey man I only work 8-3 for 188 days. No weekends, no holidays. 10 days off with pay at Christmas, ohhh and I don’t work during the summer. Work ends in May starts up in mid August no matter how many customers machines need fixed or new machinery, PLC installs you got on the books. Reason is because it’s no telling how many damn idiots I have to be around to teach this sh*t too as I install it, or fix their idiot fugg ups that happened because their 4 year degree said they knew what the f*ck was going on.

Lotta day care happening there..... Not my experience but my youngest (twenty one) of three sons is about to graduate a mechanical engineer so maybe grade school today is different... That said, my wife ended a very good career when our second son was born, now twenty eight, to raise he and his twenty month older brother at the time. All three are pretty good men.

No school until next fall in Texas. My wife is a teacher. They aren't thrilled either with the doing everything from home. On the other hand, it's a no brainer right now. A few Covid cases in an elementary school would spread like a wildfire. A bunch of parents wouldn't even send their kids to school even if they reopened. Theres only about a month left now anyway

At least here Ed, they get three recesses right up until the 6th grade.
They dont have the same schedule I did.
They seem to like school though. I hated every minute.......right through college.
Maybe thats the difference.

Maybe thats the difference. Could be Jim. My youngest son did grades 1 - 5 in Calgary and my middle son did and graduated high school in Calgary (same school our DocRocket graduated from). I was running around with work and my dear wife was sturdy and led the gang in my absence.
